 THE GOO GOO DOLLS
"DIZZY UP THE GIRL"
Warner Bros.
1998

You see, you'd love to run home, but you know you ain't got one. Cuz you're livin' in a world that you're best forgotten, around here.
The Goo Goo Dolls.

Goo Goo Dolls are considered the most famous band of the "unknown" that life more ironic, right? Now that I'm older, and my musical taste is much wider I can say it is a singles band and certainly is a pity. The group met him in year 96 if memory serves me and that came in the Twister Soundtrack "Long Way Down" and a friend of mine recommended to me by that time when they pulled this record, especially since the song had more popular band "Iris". The song gained much recognition for being in the soundtrack of the film The City of Angels in 1998, the same year the release of Dizzy Up the Girl. This song is definitely the best song on the album, as it is quite "epic". Sounds very wide, very large, and shows the band at its best. Not talking about nothing innovative, the album is pretty straightforward as a whole, pop-rock and alternative rock, and in all honesty, has an interesting quality of seeming a bit "retro" which makes it extremely attractive, but the value is not desminuye to through it, because of "Iris" more than anything. Of course, this would not be a good review if you just talk about this topic, right? There are not many things I do not like this album, actually. I say it sounds a bit "retro", in the sense that one can say that is alternative rock of the late 90s, because that's what was popular then, along with groups such kind. Only one thing rather ear draining me of this album, and bassist Robby Takac sings on some tracks. Take the lead vocals for some songs, and that is a good bass player, but his voice is quite irritating, honestly. But that's not enough to hate the album or songs. I do not hate him at all, in fact it's quite the opposite. What adoro.El album begins with "Dizzy", the song is a kind of representation of the entire album, as it is quite simple, Rzeznik's voice is passionate and raw (but never disappointing), and letters, are very nice too. Has a good hook, and works well as an album opener. With simple records, there is a downside, and some songs tend to fall right off the road when they need it most, as other senses are much harder and succeed. That's how this album apart from "Iris", there are other tracks that are well above their means, as the third song "Broadway". This song is very emotional lyrics such as: "You see, you'd love to run home, but you know you is not got one. Cuz you're livin 'in a world That you're best forgotten, around here . Rzeznik is a teacher, sings these letters to reach you absolutely in the best way possible. The following "January Friend" is one of the few songs that bassist Robby Takac takes lead vocals, so to speak, not I like his voice, as I said before. sounds pretty weak to me, but the song is not terrible.'s only Takáč's voice is quite irritating. As the disc continues to appear in a couple of songs a bit unbearable originality and missed his attempt simplified acoustic ballad, "Black Ballon" is a kind of "Iris", and I wonder why you want "2 Iris" if one already is sublime.
Half of the album is where things start slacking a bit, though. Not too many songs in the measure that really disappoint me, and that's something that's good, because it's in the middle, is when the filler songs make its presence in the ordinary discs. The album does not recover again until "Acoustic # 3." This is a short little acoustic song (obviously) appears in the last third of the album, and it is absolutely fantastic. It's a nice song that seems to be a claim for "Iris", which appears after a while, and that's where the album shines. This song is absolutely perfect, to be honest. It is one of the best songs they have done in their lives. Chances are, this is the first time you hear this song when you mention The Goo Goo Dolls, but Judge it by your care and you'll know what I mean. And for good reason. Of course, however, there are a couple of memorable songs on this album "Slide" it seems that this made by and to be sung exclusively by The Goo Goo Dolls. If this album had ended with "Iris", would have been the perfect ending, but noe s well. Actually, they are at the height of "Iris", but nothing happens. In any case, the final record is fine, because "Iris" is near the end, so it has something to look forward to throughout the album.I love this album and I love the wonderful voice of Rzeznik, but I have to admit that low interest at some points, because the only songs that really drop are those with a Takac on lead vocals. His voice is not as wonderful as that of Rzeznik, everyone is good with a job, so the experiments are usually performed with gas before from being a disaster and have consequences that one can complain. However, songs like "Iris" "Broadway" "Slide" make the album is a delight, and that criticism can be overlooked. Good album, but not up to par with other classics of the decade, a shame.
