Si me hicieran a escoger cual es el mejor álbum de la década pasada del 2000, posiblemente diría que el The Director's Cut de Fantômas, recuerdo que la salida del álbum me cogió en mi mas enfermiza admiración y devoción que he tenido sobre Mike Patton. Pero fuera controversias de que si es el mejor o no disco de la decada, lo que si es cierto es que es el mejor de la banda. Puede que sea una anecdota o una realidad decir que es el mas accesible de todos los registros de Fantômas... El disco se compone de canciones re-alineadas de "covers" de películas temáticas. A pesar de que ninguna de las canciones son originales de Fantômas es un cd increíble!. Asi que para variar, hoy pienso comentar pista por pista todo el álbum porque cada canción es como si fuera un disco diferente.
"The Godfather" nos envuelve en la famosa melodía del tema del padrino con una misteriosa armónica y luego BAM! La canción se vuelve pesada y de ritmo rápido. Después de la parte pesada de que entra en una parte mariachi y que recuerda mucho al tema original.. solamente es más hermosa y espeluznante.
"Der Golem" este es otro tema pesado, y pista fangosa. Donde Patton grita "The creature walks". De ritmo mas lento a lo largo de la canción pero que en cambio el final aumenta de velocidad y.. suena impresionante.
"Experiment In Terror" La canción comienza con una melodía de guitarra tímida entre distorsión suave, pero los versos son realmente espeluznantes y con acompañamiento de jazz!. Las voces son geniales. Después de la segunda estrofa de la canción se vuelve pesada, con Lombardo añadiendo de su clase. Patton nos vuelve a mostrar su increíble versatilidad.
"One Step Beyond" Esta es otra interpretación increíble... pero esta vez se trata de una versión más concertada de One Step Beyond. Dave Lombardo y Mike Patton vuelven a estar increíbles aquí. Es asombroso cómo la melodía puede ser mantenida con ese tipo de intensidad vocal, solo al alcance de pocos vocalistas. La canción tiene a una extraña secuencia, con una voz distorsionada y patrones de bateria rápidismos por eso Lobardo era y es el Rey del Speed Metal... justo antes de entrar en el clímax de lo increíble.
"Night Of The Hunter (Remix)" Esta canción cabalga sobre una melodía de ensueño con una voz chirriante muy terrorifica de Patton casi irreconocible. Corta, pero nuevamente increíble.
"Cape Fear" Aquí Fantômas clavan con su versión el tema de El Cabo del Miedo. Melodía que sale de la guitarra de Buzz y con una voz de tono altisima de Patton para reemplazar las cuerdas volátiles de la original.
"Rosemary's Baby" Esta es la canción más increíble de este álbum por lo que puedo decir que es mi preferida también. La versión es mejor que la versión original por muchas opiniones que la gente pueda tener. Comienza con un falsete espeluznante y una caja de música, pero luego una capa oscura de guitarra entra en juego.. todo muy inquietante. Las voces de Patton son un poco más bajas, hasta que es atacada por un fuerte bombo y una guitarra melódica muy pesada. Entra en 3/4 para un rato, y luego de nuevo en el coro. La parte más sorprendente es que la canción se convierte en un poco más tranquila después de la parada de la batería... y de repente se escucha un bebé llorando en el fondo con un aura que lo envuelve todo muy asustadizo. Después del coro retoma la canción en un clímax increíblemente indescriptible que te hara poner los vellos como escarpias, a dia de hoy mas de 10 años despues me sigue dando el mismo efecto este tema.
"The Devil Rides Out (Remix)" Esta es otra canción corta, pero increíble. Se oye a Patton y la guitarra Buzz alinearse entre sí, y luego Lombardo llega con sus bombos y el cúmulo acaba estallando en un espeluznante pieza arreglada de melodías y efectos de sonido.
"Spider Baby" La mejor parte de esta canción se encuentra en los primeros segundos, cuando Patton deja escapar esta risa maníaca increíble maléfica. Se compone entre medios y bajos ritmos. No hay muchos intercambios entre ellos como todas las canciones anteriores, aqui los chillidos son melodías vocales con riffs de guitarras de Buzz. Los versos que susurra hablaa de canciones cursis aparentemente inspiradas en viejas películas de terror.
"The Omen" Esta versión de la profecía no es tan buena como la original, pero no hay otra banda mejor que pudieran hacer una cover mejor que ellos como Fantômas hacen aquí. Comienza con un sonido de organo muy pesado y Patton entra para dejarnos caer esas letras satánicas como si de una secta se tratara... Luego cambia en una melodía de guitarra diciendo letras a destiempo. Lombardo descansa por unos instantes y la canción se convierte en un asalto final. Esta parte es increíble... especialmente la parte donde Lombardo trabaja los platillos. Durante esa parte, Patton esta simplemente increíble :)
"Henry: Portrait Of A Serial Killer" Esta es otra de mis favoritas. Se inicia con un gong resonando y un bajo ultra pesado y si se escucha con atención se oyen sirenas de policía en el fondo. Después de unos gongs explota singularmente en el meloldia que firma el tema. Luego se dirige a una capa extraña de guitarra y el bajo. La voz de falsete vuelve a inundarnos imitando el zumbido tocado después de los gongs. Suena impresionante cuando suena la batería una de las canciones más intensas incluso en las partes más tímidas. Finalmente, termina con la misma forma en la que comenzó.
"Vendetta" Esta es una canción bastante extraña, es bastante curioso decir eso viniendo de una banda como ellos, pero hasta extrañezas tienen los locos. Cuenta con piano misterioso, una guitarra de rasgueo. Es un poco más relajada que las covers anteriores.
"Untitled" Como bien dice su nombre no suena nada...una extrañeza más.
"Investigation Of A Citizen Above Suspicion" La canción comienza con un terrorífica e inquietante introduccion introducción ingeniosa de flautas, y las guitarras distorsionadas son suaves. La melodía a veces se rompe por culpa de Patton haciendo distorsionadas voces entre medio. Finalmente la canción se vuelve más pesada, pero las voces distorsionadas todavía existen entre medio. Después de las últimas voces la canción termina con una locura de voces y sonidos.
"Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me" Esta es la versión del tema la película y no de la famosa serie, dicho esto comento que es bastante suave y en ningun momento nos da sensacion de angustia, en cambio se agradece que tambien haya canciones de esta talla. Empieza muy "jazz", con algunas muestras de riffs y de piano, y pasa a ser una parte vocal que le acompaña el trabajo realizado por la batería de Dave Lombardo. Después de este patrón se repite de nuevo, la canción tiene tintes de trip-hop.
"Charade" Un final increíble para un gran álbum. Se inicia con el trabajo de guitarra con melodias distintas de mano de Buzz cuando entonces Lombardo construye muy bien el trabajo de platillos. Luego se dirige a una parte con una extraña percusión y rítmicos cantandos. Cuando las cuerdas de capas de teclado vienen, Patton comienza a cantar la letra. Hay un momento que se dedica a una parte cargada haciendo esos gritos locos que introdujeron por primera vez a nosotros en el álbum debut de Fantômas. Luego vuelve a entrar la parte de jazz y Patton canta en falsete esta vez con efectos vocales medios locos que parecen tener más de una función rítmica. A continuación, entra en una parte sesión de jam con un solo de batería y una guitarra de rasgueo rápido. Durante unos segundos se escuchan unos aplausos de gente y es cuando entonces Patton canta otro verso, guiada por melodías tímidas. Justo cuando la canción termina. Una genialidad mas de cancion que resume en 3 minutos una varieda de sonidos y estilos.
La mayoría de las canciones no duran mas de tres minutos de duración, pero todavía hay mucho que escuchar en este disco y por mas que lo escucho mas cosas tiene que ofrecer. Para las personas que quieren entrar en el mundo de Fantômas esta seria la forma mas favorable y mejor para comenzar a escucharlos. Justo cuando salió el álbum era muy bueno ahora simplemente es un clásico.
If I did a choose which is the best album of the last decade, 2000, possibly would say the The Director's Cut Fantômas, remember that the release of the album took me more sick in my admiration and devotion that I had on Mike Patton. But aside disputes if not the best or disc of the decade, what is certain is that it is the best of the band. It may be an anecdote or a reality that it is the most accessible of all records of Fantômas ... The album consists of songs re-aligned "covers" themed movies. Although none of the songs are original Fantômas is an amazing cd!. So for a change, today I think track by track comment whole album because each song is like a different disk.
"The Godfather" involves us in the famous Godfather theme tune with a mysterious harmonica and then BAM! The song becomes heavy and fast paced. After the heavy part that enters a mariachi party and is reminiscent original theme .. only more beautiful and creepy.
"Der Golem" this is another issue heavy and muddy track. Where Patton yells "The creature walks". Slower rate over the song but instead the end increases speed and .. sounds awesome.
"Experiment In Terror" The song begins with a guitar riff timid among low distortion, but the verses are really creepy and jazz accompaniment!. The voices are great. After the second verse of the song becomes heavy, with Lombardo adding in its class. Patton again shows his incredible versatility.
"One Step Beyond" This is another amazing interpretation ... but this time it is a concert version of One Step Beyond. Dave Lombardo and Mike Patton are again amazing here. It is amazing how the melody can be maintained with that kind of vocal intensity, only available to a few vocalists. The song has a strange sequence, with a distorted voice and drum patterns Lobardo rápidismos why was and is the King of Speed Metal ... just before entering the unbelievable climax.
"Night Of The Hunter (Remix)" This song rides on a dreamy melody with a very squeaky voice almost unrecognizable Patton terrifying. Short, but again amazing.
"Cape Fear" Here Fantômas stick with their version the theme of Cape Fear. Melody guitar leaving Buzz and ultra high-pitched voice of Patton to replace the original strings volatile.
"Rosemary's Baby" This is the most amazing song of this album so I can say it's my favorite too. The version is better than the original version by many opinions that people may have. It begins with a creepy falsetto and a music box, but then a dark layer of guitar comes in. .. all very disturbing. Patton voices are a little lower, until he is attacked by a strong drum and guitar heavy melodic. Enter 3/4 for a while, and then back into the chorus. The most amazing part is that the song becomes a little quieter after the stop of the battery ... and suddenly you hear a baby crying in the background with an aura that surrounds all very scary. After the chorus takes the song to a climax that will make you incredibly indescribable put hairs like hooks, as of today over 10 years later still gives me the same effect this.
"The Devil Rides Out (Remix)" This is another short song, but amazing. You hear the guitar Patton and Buzz align with each other, and then Lombardo arrives with his drums and bursting cluster just a creepy piece arranged melodies and sound effects.
"Spider Baby" The best part of this song is in the first few seconds, when Patton lets out this incredible evil maniacal laughter. It is made from medium and low rates. Not many exchanges between them as all the previous songs, here are the vocal melodies with screaming guitar riffs Buzz. The verses hablaa whispers songs apparently inspired cheesy old horror movies.
"The Omen" This version of the prophecy is not as good as the original, but there is no better band that could make a cover better than they do here as Fantômas. Start with a heavy organ sound and Patton comes to drop us those letters satanic sect as if it were ... Then change into a guitar riff letters saying untimely. Lombardo rests for a moment and the song becomes a final assault. This part is amazing ... especially the part where Lombardo works the cymbals. During this part, this simply amazing :) Patton
"Henry: Portrait Of A Serial Killer" This is another of my favorites. It begins with a resounding gong and a low ultra heavy and if you listen closely you can hear police sirens in the background. After a few gongs uniquely exploits in meloldia signing it. Then it goes to a strange layer of guitar and bass. The falsetto voice imitating flood us again touched after ringing the gongs. Sounds awesome when battery sounds one of the most intense songs even in the most timid. Finally ends with the same form in which it began.
"Vendetta" This is a very strange song, it's pretty funny to say that coming from a band like them, but to have the crazy weirdness. It has mysterious piano, guitar strumming. It's a little more relaxed than the previous covers.
"Untitled" As its name does not sound ... more strangeness.
"Investigation Of A Citizen Above Suspicion" The song begins with a terrifying and haunting flute intro introduction witty, and distorted guitars are soft. The tune is sometimes broken because of Patton doing distorted voices between. Finally the song gets heavier, but the distorted vocals still exist between. After the last voices the song ends with a crazy voices and sounds.
"Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me" This is the film version of the song and not the famous series, said that comment that is quite smooth and at no time gives us feeling of distress, however it is appreciated that also has songs this size. Starts very "jazz", with some samples and piano riffs, and happens to be a vocal that accompanies the work done by the battery of Dave Lombardo. After this pattern is repeated again, the song has shades of trip-hop.
"Charade" An amazing end to a great album. It starts with the guitar work with different melodies Buzz labor when Lombardo then builds work fine dishes. Then it goes to a party with a strange rhythmic percussion and cantandos. When the strings are keyboard layers, Patton begins to sing the lyrics. There is a time dedicated to a portion charged by the screaming crazy first introduced to us in the debut album by Fantômas. Then re-enter the jazz and Patton sings in falsetto vocal effects this time with crazy media seem to have more of a rhythmic feature. It then enters a part jam session with a drum solo and fast strumming a guitar. For a few seconds we hear applause when people and then Patton sings another verse, led by timid melodies. Just as the song ends. A genius song that sums over in 3 minutes of varieties of sounds and styles.
Most of the songs do not last more than three minutes long, but there is still much to listen to this record and more I hear more things has to offer. For people who want to enter the world of Fantômas this would be the most favorable and better way to start listening. Just when the album came out was very good just now is a classic.
