Hay reuniones que ponen los pelos de punta antes de que sucedan, algunas una vez se concretan se convierten en un bendito accidente y otras en un terrible error de consequencias bíblicas. Por desgracia le de Soundgarden es de este tipo. Me explico estas reuniones son siempre por dinero, si dejas a tu novia por que habéis llegado al extremo de odiaros y tirados de los pelos. Un día no te levantas tras haber estado con cientos de mujeres y decides volver con ella, si no hay un oscuro deseo… Sustituyamos dinero por sexo y ya tenemos la ecuación del problema. Algunas veces el esperpento se reduce a una gira sacadineros a fans posteriores que no pudieron vivirlo en su momento (Pixies, Sex Pistols, Faith no More) y en otros intentan aprovechar mas el tirón y sacan hasta nuevo material (Janes addiction, stone temple pilots…). No contento con arruinar su reputación con proyectos fracasados nada mas nacer artísticamente hablando, Audioslave fue un abominable engendro, sus discos en solitario pasaron de querer sonar a Jeff buckley a sonar a Justin Timberlake, Chris Cornell arruino su carrera en una década de encadenar desastres. Matt Cameron se unió a Pearl Jam y la verdad es que nunca me acabo de cuajar del todo su estilo en la banda. Los otros dos permanecieron en el anonimato sobretodo Kim Thayil… Una vez le damos al play "King Animal" es un disco sin alma, frío, caduco, perdido… Sacan este disco en 1997 tras "Down on the upside" y la decepción hubiera sido mayúscula. Cornell lo intenta pero ni su voz ni su cabeza están ya para tocar en un grupo de rock, Thayil anda perdido, anclado en un pasado que no volverá, Ben pasa de todo y solo se excita a la hora de cobrar el cheque, mientras el pobre Cameron hace lo que puede… Canciones que te cuesta dios y ayuda de acabar de escuchar intentan pero no logran en ningún momento despertarte del letargo que te han inducido. "Bones of birds" es una de las peores canciones por la sensación de sonar a otra ya oída antes pero en una versión demo, o algo así. Si bajamos el listón "Been away for too long" que al principio nos indigno es una de las menos malas… imaginaros el desastre. Suena a una banda de versiones de soundgarden que lleva toda la vida tocando esas canciones que reciben el encargo de hacer un disco con temas propios en 2 semanas. Canciones con ecos del pasado, cuando no autoplagios, horrendos retratos de canciones que hubieran sido descartes en "Superunknown" aquí son de lo poco salvable del disco. Las canciones van pasando y nada… Riffs ya oídos mil veces, los pocos solos de Kim vergonzantes, sus manidos extraños compases que antes hacían gracia ahora crispan los nervios, y Chris cantando a medio gas intentando no cascarse mas una voz que jamas volverá a ser lo que fue… "Taree" que en un principio podía ser algo diferente y te da esperanza acaba sonando a eso a los discos de Cornell en solitario que todos comprábamos y tras varias escuchas arrinconabas en una estantería. "Rowing" es tan chunga que casi lloro de pena. Las canciones son cortas entre tres y cuatro minutos pero se hacen eternas… Si me dicen que esto es una broma en plan Spinal Tap me haría gracia, pero es que hasta logran que se te quiten las ganas de pinchar sus viejos discos. ¿Que alguien me explique que pretendían en "Attrition"? ¿Que me expliquen si "Black Saturdays" es una broma de mal gusto? ojalá mis oídos no hubieran oído nunca tonterías del tamaño de "Halfway there" editadas bajo el nombre de Soundgarden.
Si este disco se edita bajo el nombre de Chris Cornell hubiéramos pasado de largo y de puntillas le damos un aprobado justo y a otra cosa mariposa pero amigo… Esto se edita como el disco del gran retorno de Soundgarden, y en ese caso el disgusto es mayor, y la respuesta diferente no apruebo esto ni a punta de pistola, me niego a aceptar que han vuelto… Yo sigo en aquel memorable 21 de septiembre de 1996 fecha en la que la banda de Seattle toco en Barcelona uno de los mejores conciertos que recuerdo… "King Animal" es una pesadilla de la que espero despertar pronto y no recordar jamas.

Riffs and ears a thousand times, the few solos Kim embarrassing, its strange hackneyed amused bars before now twitching nerves, and Chris singing at half trying not broken in over a voice will never be what was ... "Taree" which originally could be something different and gives you hope it ends up sounding to the Cornell solo albums all tracks bought and after several arrinconabas on a shelf. "Rowing" is so sketchy that I almost wept with grief. The songs are short three to four minutes but are eternal ... If I say this is a joke in Spinal Tap plan would grace me, but is that until you are able to remove the desire to play his old records. What someone explain to me who wanted to "Attrition"? This is published as the record of the great return of Soundgarden, and then the disappointment is greater , and different response or not approve it at gunpoint, I refuse to accept that they have become ... I'm still in that memorable September 21, 1996 date that the Seattle band Barcelona play in one of the best concerts I remember ... "Animal King" is a nightmare from which I hope will soon wake up and not remember ever.
