En Seattle siempre hubo en términos de grunge varias categorías. La elite formada por los 4 grandes en cuestión de ventas que no de calidad. Nirvana, Soundgarden, Alice in Chains y Pearl jam estaban en el top. Luego estaba otra categoría una división de honor donde la calidad privaba por encima de las ventas… Mudhoney, Melvins, Tad… Estos tenían el reconocimiento de la critica pero no de las ventas mayoritarias de los 4 fantásticos. Love Battery eran esas pequeñas bandas que estaban a rebufo de estas. una tercera categoría donde ni publico ni critica se hacia eco de ellos. Truly seria otra olvidada banda. Bandas de las otras dos categorías solían llevarlas de teloneras. La música de Love Battery estaba en un punto intermedio entre Sonic Youth y Mudhoney. En directo estaban más cercanos a Mudhoney que a los Sonic, Fueron incorporando melodías a su áspera música y quizás merecieron mucha más suerte. Foo Fighters les cogieron muchas ideas prestadas… Bueno todo en esa banda es prestado. "Dayglo" es un disco excelso, con músculo un álbum que conjura todos los términos del rock alternativo. ¿Grunge? Si y mil cosas más. "Out of focus" es un pelotazo redondo cercano a esos grandes himnos Seattleianos de los 90's pero una dedada más tarde. "Foot" es muy noisy, la sombra de Kim Gordon y los suyos asoma con fuerza. "Damaged" es un ejemplo de buen gusto, un grunge blues arrastrado, fangoso con unas guitarras hirientes y un slide atormentado, ecos a The Cure dan ejemplo de lo variado de la banda. "See your mind" es el rock directo y sin tregua que han intentado hacer Pearl jam en sus dos últimos discos sin suerte. "Side" Es como escuchar un single de los primeros Mudhoney a 33RPM, correosos, nerviosos y con una musculatura que más quisieran Vedder y cía. Con el tema "Cool School" juegan a ser lo que nunca han sido… Punk rockers y claro les sale un híbrido magnifico, Un temazo, un petardazo que Grohl robaría sin problemas, aunque aquí la producción es la adecuada para el genero él le daría ese empaque MTV que le daría un par de millones más. "Sometimes" Es como los rayos de sol tras un día de lluvia, bello y necesario. La tonada en este tema es tan alegre y triste a la vez que es mágico ver como va mutando a cada segundo. No saber si reír o llorar… "Blonde" con esos acoples tan Neil Young padrino del grunge y culpable de dar credibilidad a una banda como Pearl Jam, es un tema que te revienta el estomago, con un riff penetrante y una base rítmica saltarina como la lluvia en abril. El tema que titula al disco es 100% Sonic youth pero como si estos se juntaran con Green River y fueran de ácidos hasta las cejas. Temazo mayúsculo. En "23 modern stories" agarran las guitarras acústicas para jugar a ser Pink Floyd, como si estos hubieran crecido en el noroeste de los States y no en la bella campiña inglesa.
Un disco atemporal, fuera de su tiempo y perdido en el espacio que debéis recuperar.

Talking about "grunge" there always were several categories in Seattle. First, the elite formed by the big 4, if we talk about selling the most but not about the music quality, Nirvana, Soundgarden, Alice in Chains and Pearl Jam were on the top. Then, there was this other category, a division of honor, where the quality in music was above the selling factor... Mudhoney, Melvins, Tad... These bands had the critics recognition but not the big sellers of the fantastic 4. Love Battery were one of these little bands that were a step behind the previous four. Truly would be another forgotten band. The big selling bands used to have them as their support bands in concerts. Love Battery's music was in a middle point between Sonic Youth and Mudhoney. When they played in live they were closer to Mudhoney's music than to Sonic Youth's. Little by little they added more melodies to their rough music and probably they should have deserved a better luck. Foo Fighters took many ideas from them... Well, everything in that band is taken from   others. "Dayglo" is a sublime record, fully muscled, an album that plots together all the terms for the alternative rock. Grunge? Yes, and a thousand more things. "Out of focus" is a round bomb, closest to these great hymns from 90s Seattle but a decade later. "Foot" is very noisy, Kim Gordon and his gang cast comes out strongly. "Damage" is the example of good taste, a dragged grunge blues, muddy, with wounding guitars and a tormented slide, echos from The Cure give us the example how the band's varied repertoire is. "See your mind" is rock in live and truce-less, as Pearl Jam have tried to make it in their last two albums unluckily. "Side" is the same as listening to a single of the early Mudhoney in 33RPM, flexible, with the nerves and muscles that Vedder and the rest would like to have themselves. With the song "Cool School" they play to be what they have never been...Punk rockers, and obviously the result is a wonderful hybrid song, a hit, a bomb that Grohl would steal without trouble, although here the production is the appropriate one for the gender, he'd give the MTV touch that would make him win a couple of millions more. "Sometimes" is like the sunny rays after a rainy day, beautiful and necessary. The tone in this song is so happy and sad at the same time that is magical to perceive its mutation as each second passes. Not knowing whether to laugh or cry... "Blonde", with the so Neil Young connections, godfather of the grunge and culpable of making a band like Pearl Jam believable, is a song that makes your stomach burst, with a penetrating huff and a jumpy rhythmical base like the rain in April. The song that gives name to the record is 100% Sonic Youth, but as if they were together with Green River and they'd be bitter to the top. A hit with capital words. In "23 modern stories" they hold tight their acoustic guitars to play to be Pink Floyd, as if these had grown in the northeast of the States and not in the beautiful English countryside.
A timeless album, out of its time and lost space that should be surely rescued.
