Aunque son aclamados por las críticas y alabados en el terreno de lo underground, no garantizan ventas ni reconocimiento comercial. Después que hayan sido despedidos por dos discográficas, incluyendo Columbia, The Mary Onettes optaron por la auto realización, antes que fueran adoptados por el sello indie Labrador, nos trajeron su tan esperado segundo álbum, Islands. De ello se desprende el esfuerzo epónimo que hicieron en 2007 y, al igual que su historial, se codea de nostalgia.
El
cuarteto de indie de Dream\pop de (Jönköping, Suecia) tienen aún sus esencia de los años 80-90 y las influencias que sentimos de Echo And The Bunnymen y The
Stone Roses no son mas que una mera coincidencia. Islands
evoca el sueño de las maravillas del invierno de Suecia, rodeado de
nieve y sombras de nubes grises, atravesados por una luz blanca de un sol muy lejano.The Mary
Onettes han crecido en confianza, entregando un sonido más amplio con
dramáticas canciones pegadizas, con patrones y secuencias
deslumbrantes mas atractivas. Pero
son los sintetizadores poderosos que dominan el sonido y crean el
perfecto telón de fondo invernal de los 80s para que las letras se conviertan en filosóficas, con un estado frecuente de oscuridad y perdición.
Ningún
hombre es una isla, y ciertamente el cantante y guitarrista Philip
Ekstrom, que comparte sus sentimientos más personales en el álbum, se inspiró en las muertes de sus seres queridos. Los
temas se entrelazan en Islands ejecutando una amplia gama emocional: amor, nostalgia y pesar del arrepentimiento, la pérdida y la
mortalidad, tejiendo una "isla" de sensaciones.
Con
una producción impecable y la sensación de oscuridad en el ambiente, el álbum abre con Puzzles y solo establece un nuevo estándar en el primer
momento: "Let’s make this year look good tonight", Ekstrom canta,
casi suplicando. Él
está de luto por sus días de juventud y en la desaparición de su juventud. God Knows I Had Plans, y Cry For Love ofrecen el panorama sombrío de lo que nos espera: "It’s just a matter of time/Before they put me in the grave/Before they put you in the grave".

Although acclaimed by critics and praised in the realm of the underground, do not guarantee sales or commercial recognition. After having been dismissed by two record labels, including Columbia, The Mary Onettes opted for self-realization, before they were adopted by the indie label Labrador, brought his long-awaited second album, Islands. It follows the eponymous effort they made in 2007 and, like its history, rubs shoulders with nostalgia.
The indie quartet Dream \ pop (Jonkoping, Sweden) have yet their essence of 80-90 years and the influences that feel of Echo And The Bunnymen and The Stone Roses are merely coincidental. Islands evokes the dream of a winter wonderland of Sweden, surrounded by snow and cloud shadows gray, crossed by a white light from a distant sun.The Mary Onettes have grown in confidence, delivering a wider sound catchy songs with dramatic, dazzling patterns and sequences more attractive. But they are powerful synthesizers that dominate the sound and create the perfect backdrop for the 80 winter so the letters become philosophical, with a frequent state of gloom and doom.
No man is an island, and certainly the singer and guitarist Philip Ekstrom, who shares his personal feelings on the album, was inspired by the deaths of their loved ones. The issues are intertwined in providing a wide variety Islands emotional love, despite the nostalgia and regret, loss and mortality, weaving an "island" of sensations.
With flawless production and dark feeling in the atmosphere, the album opens with Puzzles and only sets a new standard for the first time: "Let's Make This year look good tonight", sings Ekstrom, almost pleading. He is mourning his younger days and the disappearance of his youth. God Knows I Had Plans, and Cry For Love offer grim picture of what lies ahead: "It's just a matter of time / Before They put me in the grave / Before They put you in the grave".However, they manage to deliver the saddest feeling a stirring approach. The mood changes and becomes stronger when a resonance emerges Symmetry happier. Despite the predominant symptoms of sadness and darkness, life gives Islands instrumentation with keyboards and some impeccable arrangements.
The Mary Onettes have mastered the art of writing catchy songs four minutes without endangering themselves, and without any risk. Islands is unswervingly loyal to their sound and influences, and if there is something that stands above the rest is that it's too consistent. Bricks may summarize it better, to borrow a famous phrase from Pink Floyd: "You're just another brick in the wall".
