ATOMS FOR PEACE
"AMOK"
XL
2013
"Before
There is no denying that Thom Yorke and Nigel Godrich are a fantastic musical duo. They
have proven this time and previously through Radiohead and even Yorke
solo album, The Eraser that are a perfect complement. In theory, Atoms For Peace is an exciting new concept for the band. Yorke
and Godrich bind with Flea of the Red Hot Chili Peppers, REM Waranker
Joey and Mauro Refosco, who recently worked with RHCP to form a
supergroup of electronic rock. Unfortunately,
the overwhelming amount of talent within the band not used properly to
my taste, the debut album due Atoms For Peace is that the sound is too
predictable in every way.Atoms
For Peace is clearly an idea of Yorke and Godrich, and Amok sounds
like the next logical step for the duo in musical journey. Amok could easily have been released under the name of Yorke and be released as a continuation of The Eraser. But the decision not to do on your day came with important consequences.
At first glance, one of the most interesting aspects of Atoms For Peace is Flea participation. But Flea should have had much more to offer in Atoms For Peace, and its lack of utility in Amok is disappointing to say the less. Unfortunately, he is forced to hold back, playing with taste, but with little ease. Flea has no place in this record to flex their creative muscles in music, so it really low quality coniderablemente album."Before Your Very Eyes" is a song that opens the album with strength, with Yorke's song celebrating together, guiding the listener on a journey of electronic rock. The song starts organically but eventually becomes a digitized piece progresses through different musical moods.
"Ingenue" is another major milestone in the album. The song is full of layers that add up to a strong vocal melody Yorke. The natural musical chemistry between Yorke and Godrich really shines here. These two are masters of electronic music and is very evident in "Ingenue".Though Flea is not really high on Amok, its low rate plays a key role in "Judge, Jury and Executioner", and ends up being one of the most memorable songs of the album. Yorke loose on this one a bit, leaving some blues in his delivery. "Judge Jury and Executioner" comes at a time during the disk needs a slight jolt of energy to keep going, and fortunately, this one offers that little piece of life that keeps the album grounded.Overall, Amok is a pretty good experience, but should have been an album of Thom Yorke solo. There are many musicians who take second place to allow Amok I have an own vision. Hopefully Atoms For Peace decided not to put more material, or else the band to reconsider its implementation in order to make best use of the talents of its members. What could have been a masterpiece, is at left in unfinished.
