Este fué el tercer album del mejor solista surgido en los años noventa.
bandas de Folk Moderno como: Damien Rice o Sufjan Stevens le deben mucho
a Smith.
Es un álbum totalmente intimista grabado con medios muy caseros a medias entre el apartamento de Smith y la casa de su novia. lo cual engrandece este album con ese sonido desnudo,crudo y sencillo a su vez.
Este album tubo cierta repercusión gracias a que varios temas estuvieron en la banda sonora de El Indomable Will Hunting de Gus Van Sant, lo cual casi llevó a Smith a lograr un oscar por el tema Miss Missery.
Centrándonos en el álbum nos encontramos con algunas de las mejores composiciones que Smith nos regalo en vida. temas que han pasado a la historia del Pop/Rock independiente como:"Ballad Of Big Nothing" un himno a la libertad. mientras "Between The Bars" es una oda a una botella de whisky,"Pictures Of Me" es una instantánea acerca de las relaciones destructivas que tantos problemas de alcohol,depresión y drogadiccion provocaron a Smith. Pero es en los tres últimos cortes del álbum donde Smith aprieta fuerte el acelerador y nos obsequia con lo que es el colodión final con primero la estupenda y rockera "Cupid's Trick" después la dudas y los miedos de altas horas de la madrugada pero de un modo bellamente articulado y doloroso de "2.45 AM" mientras que "Say Yes" suena desesperanzodaramente optimista para cerrar este gran álbum.
