El segundo disco de Sir Elton John por el que obtuvo su primera nominación a los grammy, contiene una de esas canciones eternas y es que "Your song" mas que una simple canción es un himno eterno. Con unos arreglos preciosistas y una bella letra la primera canción del disco da en la diana. El estado de gracia del británico sigue in crescendo… " I need you to turn to" sigue la estela de la anterior, el piano, los arreglos y la voz de Elton sobresalen en otro hit arrollador. "Take me to the pilot" es un rock orquestado una canción sublime y uno de mis temas preferidos de la carrera del ingles. Con una garra inusual nos brinda un rock contundente, rozando el country rock algo que explora en el siguiente temazo. "No shoe strings on louise" es un ejercicio de rock de raíces country blues, con unos coros gospel sensacionales. Una de esas canciones que reaniman a un difunto, toda la banda esta sensacional, pero mención aparte para el guitarrista Neil Hubbard. Este tema seria el germen de su siguiente disco el magnifico "Tumbleweed Connection". Cerramos la cara A con una balada donde solo el piano y las cuerdas secundan la voz de Elton, con un aire medieval, llega a emocionarte el sentimiento que lleva implícito todo el conjunto. La voz sigue en un estado de forma excelente.
"Sixty years on" empieza inquietante con unas cuerdas petrificadoras mas cercanas a la banda sonora de un thriller que de un disco de rock, y así deambula toda la canción, hasta que la maravillosa voz de Elton nos ofrece una de las mejores melodías de todo el disco. Los arreglos orquestales son precisos y dotan a la canción de una fuerza inusitada, maquiavélica. Elton esta regalandonos una autentica obra de arte, como si Beethoven fuera su productor y arreglaste. Es uno de los mejores momentos del álbum sin duda.
Para rebajar la tensión creada con el épico tema anterior "Border Song" vuelve a los cauces del principio del álbum. Y los coros gospel envuelven la voz de Elton para elevar la canción a un nivel realmente espectacular. Al final del tema cuando crees que todo esta dicho entra la batería y la canción cobra nueva vida los coros son un instrumento mas, y una vez mas aciertan de pleno. "The greatest discovery" sigue con los arreglos orquestales y el pop de cámara la manera en que trazan la melodía antes de que Elton ataque el tema roza el regalo de los dioses, otra vez mas y van muchas, la melodía es tan bella y perfecta que anida en tu memoria, obsesionándote hasta niveles enfermizos. Alguien que compone algo así merece vivir entre oro el resto de su vida.
"The cage" es un rock divertido desenfadado pero la voz vacilona de Elton y su otra vez mas excelente melodía te dan un chute de energía. Los metales suenan aquí perfectos, y los teclados y… todo! Aunque se marquen un intermezzo de música clásica que quita el hipo. Para continuar Rockanroleando como si nada hubiera pasado. John y Taupin saben que están creando un disco eterno y se gustan.
Cierra el disco con "The king must die" 5 minutes epicos Shakesperianos y es que esta es la mejor manera de cerrar el álbum con Elton narrando junto a su piano una tragedia, musitada como el resto del disco de manera preciosista e impecable. El nervio que le aplica aquí los instrumentos de cuerda van parejos al desenlace de la historia. Estas 10 canciones que luego en diferentes ediciones posteriores fueron ampliadas, son uno de los mejores discos de la historia del rock, y un manual para músicos posteriores en el tema del uso de los arreglos de cuerda.
Con este disco descubrí que Elton John era un grandísimo músico por mucho que posteriormente arruinara parte de su legado. En 1972 tenia 4 discos de oro en las listas americanas algo que solo los Beatles había logrado antes que el.
Hazte un favor y corre a conseguir una copia de la edición de luxe del disco con demos y demás golosinas… Venderia mi alma al diablo por poder haber presentado las sesiones de grabación de este disco eterno.

To ease the tension created by the epic former "Border Song" returns to the top of the music channels. And wrap gospel choirs Elton's voice to elevate the song to a truly spectacular level. At the end of the song when you think all is said and battery enters the song takes on new life choirs are another instrument, and are right once again full. "The greatest discovery" continues with the orchestral and chamber pop that trace how the melody before Elton attack the issue touches the gift of the gods, yet again and go many, the melody is so beautiful and perfect nesting in your memory, to levels unhealthy obsessing. Someone who deserves to live up something between gold the rest of his life.
"The Cage" is a casual but fun rock vacilona voice of Elton and his most excellent melody again give you a shot of energy. Metals sound perfect here, and keyboards and ... everything! Although mark a classical intermezzo that take your breath away. To continue Rockanroleando as if nothing had happened. John and Taupin know they are creating a disc and eternal love.
Closes the album with "The King Must Die" 5 minutes Shakespearean epic is that this is the best way to close the album with Elton with his piano narrating a tragedy, like the rest of musitada disk so precious and flawless. The nerve that applies here stringed instruments go together to the outcome of the story. These 10 different songs then later editions were enlarged, are one of the best albums in rock history, and a manual for musicians later in the issue of the use of string arrangements.With this album.
I discovered that Elton John was a great musician who subsequently ruined much of his legacy. In 1972 he had four gold records on the U.S. charts something only the Beatles had achieved before him.Do yourself a favor and run to get a copy of the deluxe edition of the album with demos and other goodies ... sell my soul to the devil for having presented the recording sessions for this album forever.
