Aquí Goo Goo Dolls tienen menos seguidores que Mourinho amigos entre la prensa deportiva de este país. Y es una pena. Lo de los Goo goo dolls no lo del portugués. O lo era, antaño eran una buena banda. La verdad es que me parecen un grupo capaz con buenas melodías y guitarras en su justa medida. Ni demasiado blandos ni demasiado duros, pueden gustarle a tu hermana adolescente, a tu padre y a tu amigo heavy sin escrúpulos. La verdad es que tampoco son ni serán el grupo de tu vida pero proporcionan buenos ratos. Salvando las distancias son una especie de Bon Jovi.Pero salvando mucho, mucho las distancias. En este nuevo disco hay momentos un poco raros, demasiados arreglos y todo muy pulcro, "Slow it down" seria un hit si lo firmaran Maroon 5 o el hijo mayor de Julio Iglesias. Si duele pero es verdad su sombra anda por todo el disco. Estoy seguro que Enrique alucina con el disco. La verdad es que en este disco las guitarras andan más sepultadas entre teclados y melodías infecciosas con exceso de algodón de azúcar. La banda se mueve en un terreno pantanoso por todo el álbum. Conscientes que el mundo rockero les giro la espalda y visto el éxito de bandas como los anteriormente citados Maroon 5 o incluso a otro escalón The Killers ellos apuestan por entrar en el mundo de las radioformulas y es una manera de colar algún guitarrazo en ese mundo de dinosaurios e ídolos de usar y tirar. Son solo once los temas, pero el azúcar te supera y al cuarto o quinto ya estas por tirar la toalla. Cuesta, se hace duro. Quizás estemos delante de un nuevo genero Alternative AOR. Un genero en el que ellos y los canadienses Killers son amos del cotarro. Los Journey o Kansas del rock alternativo. "Come to me" es tan dulce que los diabéticos tienen prohibido escucharla a solas. A su lado Coldplay son Guns and roses y Muse Metallica. "Bringing on the light" o "More of you" siguen en esa onda de meter muchos arreglos a unos temas que con otro tratamiento más rockero serian mejores. Y la voz de Johnny Rzeznik esta demasiado tratada en el estudio durante todo el disco. Los temas se suceden y la autocomplacencia desespera. Música que sonara en los centros comerciales de Arkansas y aquí en algún hilo musical de algún estudio de arquitectos molones. En directo seguramente tengan más garra y tocando temas del pasado aun levanten pasiones, pero aquí en Europa que se olviden de que existimos. Para escucharlos a ellos hay miles de cosas mejor que escuchar. Si la banda de Chris Martin lanza un tema como "Last hot night" le llueven tortas hasta en el cielo del paladar. La ridiculez de "Happiest days" me da ganas de lanzar mi Macbook por la ventana. Nadie me obligo a acercarme a este engendro así que me esta bien empleado. Son 11 canciones que se te harán eternas, larguísimas. Un desperdició total.

Goo Goo Dolls son considerados como la banda mas famosa de las "desconocidas", que vida mas irónica, verdad? Ahora que soy mayor, y mi gusto musical es mucho mas amplio puedo decir que es una banda de Singles y ciertamente es una lástima. El grupo lo conoci por el año 96 si la memoria no me falla ya que salían en la Soundtrack de Twister con "Long Way Down" y un amigo mio me los recomendó por esa epoca cuando sacaron este disco, sobre todo porque tenía la canción mas popular de la banda "Iris". La canción ganó mucho reconocimiento por estar en la banda sonora de la película The City of Angels en 1998, el mismo año del lanzamiento de Dizzy Up the Girl. Esta canción es sin duda la mejor canción del disco, ya que es absolutamente "épica". Suena muy amplia, muy grande, y muestra a la banda en su mejor momento. No hablamos de nada innovador, el álbum es bastante sencillo en su conjunto, pop-rock y rock alternativo, y con toda honestidad, tiene una interesante cualidad de parecer un poco "retro" que lo  hace tremendamente atractivo, pero el valor no desminuye a través de él, a causa de "Iris" mas que nada. Por supuesto, esto no sería una buena critica si sólo hablo de este tema, ¿no? No hay demasiadas cosas que no me gusten de este disco, en realidad. Yo digo que suena un poco "retro", en el sentido que se puede decir que es Rock alternativo de finales de los 90, porque eso es lo que era popular entonces, junto con grupos de tal indole. Sólo hay una cosa que más bien me supura el oido de este disco, y es el bajista Robby Takac que canta en algunos temas. Toma la voz principal para algunos temas, y eso que es un buen bajista, pero su voz es absolutamente irritante, con toda honestidad.  Pero eso no es suficiente para que odie el disco o las canciones. Yo no lo odio en absoluto, de hecho, es todo lo contrario. Lo adoro.El disco comienza con "Dizzy", la canción es una especie de representación de la totalidad del álbum, ya que es bastante sencilla, la voz de Rzeznik es apasionada y cruda (pero nunca decepcionante), y las letras, son muy agradables también . Tiene un buen gancho, y funciona muy bien como un disco abridor. Con registros sencillos, hay un inconveniente, y es algunas canciones tienden a caer justo al lado del camino cuando mas lo necesitan, ya que otros sentidos son mucho más difícil y lo consiguen. Así es como funciona este disco, aparte de "Iris", hay otras pistas que estan muy por encima de sus posibilidades, como la tercera canción "Broadway". Esta canción tiene letras muy emocionales, tales como: "You see, you'd love to run home, but you know you ain't got one. Cuz you're livin' in a world that you're best forgotten, around here. Rzeznik es un maestro, canta estas letras para que te lleguen absolutamente de la mejor manera posible. La siguiente "January Friend" es una de las pocas canciones en las que el bajista Robby Takac lleva la voz principal, y así por decirlo, no me gusta su voz, como  ya dije anteriormente. Suena bastante floja para mí, pero la canción no es terrible. Es sólo que la voz de Takáč es bastante irritante. A medida que el disco continúa, aparecen en un par de canciones un tanto insoportables y faltadas de originalidad por su intento simplificado de balada acustica,  "Black Ballon" es una especie de "Iris", y yo me pregunto porque quieres "2 Iris" si una ya es sublime.
La mitad del disco es donde las cosas comienzan flojear un poco, sin embargo. No hay demasiadas canciones dentro de la medida que realmente me defrauden, y eso es algo que está bien, porque es el por el centro, es cuando las canciones de relleno hacen su presencia en lo común de los discos. El álbum no se recupera de nuevo hasta "Acoustic #3." Esta es una canción acústica poco corta (obviamente) aparece en el último tercio del disco, y es absolutamente fantástica. Es una canción agradable que parece ser un reclamo para "Iris", que aparece un poco después, y ahí es donde brilla el álbum. Esta canción es absolutamente perfecta, para ser honesto. Es una de las mejores canciones que han realizado en su existencia. Es probable que, esta sea la primera vez que oigas esta canción cuando se mencionan a The Goo Goo Dolls, pero juzgala por tu mimo y sabrás de lo que hablo. Y es por una buena razón. Por supuesto, sin embargo, hay un par de canciones memorables en este disco "Slide" parece que esta hecha por y para ser cantada exclusivamente por The Goo Goo Dolls. Si este álbum hubiera terminado con "Iris", habría sido el final perfecto, pero noe s asi. En realidad, no están a la altura de "Iris", pero no pasa nada. En cualquier caso, el registro final está muy bien, ya que "Iris" está casi al final, por lo que contiene algo que esperamos con interés a lo largo de todo el álbum.
Adoro este disco y adoro la maravillosa voz de Rzeznik, pero tengo que admitir que baja de interés en algunos puntos, ya que las únicas canciones que realmente bajan son las que tienen a Takac en la voz principal. Su voz no es tan maravillosa como la de Rzeznik, cada uno es bueno con un trabajo, por eso los experimentos se suelen hacer con gaseosa antes para que no sean un desastre y hayan consecuencias que uno pueda lamentarse. Sin embargo, canciones como "Iris" "Broadway" "Slide" hacen que el álbum sea una delicia, y que la crítica puede ser pasada por alto. Buen álbum, pero no llega a la altura de otros clásicos de la década, una pena.

Take the lead vocals for some songs, and that is a good bass player, but his voice is quite irritating, honestly. But that's not enough to hate the album or songs. I do not hate him at all, in fact it's quite the opposite. The following "January Friend" is one of the few songs that bassist Robby Takac takes lead vocals, so to speak, not I like his voice, as I said before. sounds pretty weak to me, but the song is not terrible.'s only Takáč's voice is quite irritating. As the disc continues to appear in a couple of songs a bit unbearable originality and missed his attempt simplified acoustic ballad, "Black Ballon" is a kind of "Iris", and I wonder why you want "2 Iris" if one already is sublime.
Half of the album is where things start slacking a bit, though. It is one of the best songs they have done in their lives. Chances are, this is the first time you hear this song when you mention The Goo Goo Dolls, but Judge it by your care and you'll know what I mean. And for good reason. If this album had ended with "Iris", would have been the perfect ending, but noe s well. Actually, they are at the height of "Iris", but nothing happens. His voice is not as wonderful as that of Rzeznik, everyone is good with a job, so the experiments are usually performed with gas before from being a disaster and have consequences that one can complain. However, songs like "Iris" "Broadway" "Slide" make the album is a delight, and that criticism can be overlooked. Good album, but not up to par with other classics of the decade, a shame.
