 TOOL
"OPIATE" (EP)
Zoo-Entertaiment
1992

Feliz Navidad.

When you hear the word Tool, you usually bring their standards to a metal psychedelic sound and unique. But not everyone knows that if the band Tool began as a hard rock band, however in 1992 it was more than that. "Opiate" remains a hard rock album, but live surprisingly close to the metal, especially for standards Tools.
The first thing to note from this album and that caught my attention when I had it in my hands was the cover. As you can see, there is a kind of demonic terribly priest, saying a prayer to six hands. One can guess that the cover is making a statement about religion. Curiously the religious sense as fans of Tool and Maynard not worship religion at all, but it is important to note that the initial message was that the band wanted to convey. The very title of the album, "Opiate", refers to the position of Karl Marxs in religion. Of course, "Opiate" came out two years before the debut of KoRn, anyone attempting to connect the sound of the album with the California group.
I find uninteresting into details at this point about the extensive artistic production tool, but it is difficult to try to express a feeling created around an environment around your music. First of all we should say that "Opiate" is not as dark or disturbing as his posthumous albums ..From the beginning of "Opiate" is an album heavy on the field that sounds dense and compact. It is also true that the album is far more metalhead from their own discography. It sounds like Slipknot or things like that, but leftovers could be considered by similar bands, especially in songs like "Cold and Ugly".As for the lyrics of Maynard, I think it would be fair to say that they are the best characters created by him, but neither desmejoran nothing. In short it is a great album that is closer to the metal Nu became famous a few years later that the characteristic metal Tool especially recommend the video and the song "Hush", personally the best of the entire disk. Merry Christmas.

TOOL
"ÆNIMA"
Volcano Records
1996

*****

"The Creation" and would call me a tool, where the unconventional is natural. A group that is not sold to the industry, or the falsity or journalism, they are a creature created by them at ease and likeness of their leader Maynard James Keenan.
Few groups have the honor of having a sound so unique and personalized as Tool bass sounds that makes the song at will, an amazing drummer, guitar and a voice throbbing devilish. Lyrics always with great content regarding society corrupted by all kinds of desires or religion, but with that style as yours that leaves the obvious sight, but they teach you that dark side to devour you.
The album "Aenima" consists of 15 songs which each is a part of the creature created on each disk to notes as born within you and you can not control."Aenima" is a piece that meets from metal to immersive environments reminiscent of Pink Floyd, and decay times of pain that are not easy to listen to novice ears. The album starts with "Stinkfist" The first single from the album, the name of the song was banned by MTV in their music. The song contains the essence of Tool, is a criticism of the continued over-stimulation we receive all the culture, the media, consumerism etc ... and sick because of it. "Eulogy" is a topic with the same connotations as "Stinkfist" but this time to religion, particularly Christianity and dependencies that will lead people to join her. We have two issues and we are in such a state of knockout sensations and uniqueness of voice recordings, sound nuances of riffs and atmospheres created not remember anything done to date. "H" starts giving you the feeling that you will follow the same dynamics as its two predecessors, but we found a theme "something" more relaxed with Maynard describing a desired a love song where the voice tones undulate throughout the song putting yourself goosebumps during lasting more than 5min.
The disc consists of several songs that are like intros than precede, instrumentals and some that are not so strange songs so to speak.
"46 & 2" is possibly the subject angrier disk that represents the band, with a bass sound of the most characteristic that makes presence throughout the song and how well it fits, and above should highlight the apocalyptic end has . I run out of adjectives, listen and value. "Hooker with a penis" and "Jimmy" return to the fray with these social criticism, extreme quality issues that could be both songs "Hit" of any other group and that are somewhat overshadowed by the songs that were coming. "Pushit" has an aura that reminds me a lot of Pink Floyd, (I've always said that if there is a band that has influenced them in their path had to be Pink Floyd), one of the most incredible songs made by man, though I have my doubts Tool components are. We find the real Tool Sounds Justin takes Danny Carey accompanied Cancellor half of the song is the best I ever heard in life, with Adam Jones riffs that are the key to success. "Pushit" are 10 minutes of mysticism, darkness and the occult with a composition of notes that I find it impossible to know how many do every second. We reached the title song of the album "Ænema", a song made to worship with the passage of time, here Danny Carey becomes a virtuoso monster battery, sounds very characteristic that five years later we would " Lateralus "and Maynard whispering scary! where not to repeat "Learn to swim" making references to a global catastrophe will happen but there is a change and that everything we know disappear. And the album ends with "Third Eye" the longest song the band almost 14 min very very surround sound, with a message that leaves us very spiritual song.

The album marked a before and after when composing and new sounds, with a manner and style of musicians who set us see the disappointments of a corrupt society we live. Tool is a band to listen, feel and understand.
