CANDLEBOX
"CANDLEBOX"
Maverick\Warner Bros. Records
1993
I
have always been interested in those bands second row in the Seattle
scene of the 90s, and most notably Candlebox, say it was descriminada
not be telling the truth, but it was supported through the media as the
other 4 major in the same city .
Candlebox was a band that was formed in the first scene of the music of Seattle, it was kind of hard rock combined with lyrics full of angst. So, were marked as a grunge band like almost everything else in Seattle at the time. The fact is that they were a classic rock band fairly typical with all their bases firmly planted in the blues. This meant they were more readily accepted by mainstream audiences for them led to the sale of more than four million copies of their self-titled debut, giving credit to the fault of the scene grunge.Esta is somewhat unfair assessment of the band, although it is true that jumped on the bandwagon of grunge as everyone else, but never really sounded like a grunge band (Although I always wonder who is really grunge sound? were grunge Pearl Jam? Nirvana was grunge?, and because you look like? The only band that Debio be grunge sound is Mudhoney or in this case Green River, everything else is mixed with hard rock or punk with a clear base and all of Blues).
Inside the dirty sound is hard rock band that sounds hungry and probably would not have had an impact if they had been left out of the strip in the mid 90s. "Blossom", "Mother's Dream" and "Cover Me" are probably the songs, obviously more "dirty" album, but the other songs on the album also used this set of dynamic and soft, and in most cases the songs and riffs are pushed closer to the territory of Skid Row than to Nirvana. The guitar riffs are clean and in "Change", and was the first single from the album, listen not to make an effort to see the good work, and do not hide the influences of Candlebox to more classic rock and Blues . "Rain" would fit perfectly in the track listing closest melodic about Blind Melon. The band sounds very inspired when balanced with the trademark sound of Seattle on "Do not You" and "Arrow", they have some pretty grunge moments, and truly are timeless to this day, hard rock riffs dotted some classic guitar solos. The title track of the album, "Far Behind", managed to extract all these elements of the 90s, hard rock ballad for moments of rain and gray days as is normally abundant Washington. The guitar work on the album is somewhat mixed, but solid and inspired and almost never gets boring. Scott Mercado on drums is also solid and powerful when it needs to be. This brings us to vocalist Kevin Martin. Like the rest of the band, rarely brings something new to the album, but is very good at what he does. He has a great voice to express the emotions of the lyrics distressing. Great range and power with a lot of knots in my throat, and without sounding like I was shouting himself hoarse, even when it does unleashes his cry to his own limit. However, his singing he has contributed to the anonymity of music, with minimal impact, one of the greatest singers of our time more undervalued. The only moot is that it seems to have only two modes; relaxed during the quieter parts and excessive arrasante sing during the strongest parts. While this might work a couple of times in the course of an album, is depleted and becomes somewhat monotonous when it happens in almost every song. Also, his histrionics winding is connected to memorable melodies very often and even when they are less interesting songs get a way to make them really catchy. Despite these minor drawbacks, Candlebox is still a very good album, with a sound very noventero that glows when the band manages to get the formula. The group could be considered grunge but their sound is even more attractive for fans of hard rock that grunge fans, especially for those with a soft spot for the Blues of the 70s and 80s rock.
