El cambio de Joy Division a New Order tras la muerte de Ian Curtis debería haber sido suficiente para convencer de que él era el alma del grupo?. Claro, él tenía ayuda de Hooky, Martin Hannett, y los patrones de batería que reflejaban los propios ataques epilépticos de Ian. Por todas las cuentas traídas y rumores, fuera del escenario y fuera del estudio Ian era tranquilo, reflexivo, y parecía bastante normal, aunque sus ojos ardían a través de sus poéticas canciones. Pero, ya se sabe. Era la época. El Punk había aparecido, y estaba a punto de implosionar. Inglaterra sufrió la pobreza y todo parecía sombrío. Influencias musicales? Kraftwerk sonaban a extranjeros. Iggy Pop fue corrompido estando totalmente en plenitud, y los fans de la Velvet Underground eran todavía una especie de sociedad secreta. Por lo que el grupo tuvo que pasar a ser una banda mas de "rock clásico", o algo por el estilo. Joy Division combinaba una serie de influencias que agregaban el estilo de sección de ritmos y las habilidades de producción de Martin Hannett para crear algo único. Por supuesto, también tenía las letras, que eran obras de arte. Todo se combinaba junto. Además teníendo el aspecto físico de Ian Curtis en el escenario, agitando los brazos, medio cerrados, y medio levantados hacia el cielo, como si estuviera esperando una especie de milagro.

La música de Joy Division se convierte en este maravilloso descubrimiento. Se termina viendo un vídeo de calidad deficiente de Joy Division con todas las cortinas cerradas de tu casa a pesar de que el sol brille afuera. Porque el sol está brillando afuera, pero aún así tu prefieres estar dentro, dentro de tu realidad, dentro de tí llorando por tres días seguidos cuando la chica que amas se va para siempre y no llegas a comprender porque no se puede estar juntos toda la vida. Teniendo noches de trastorno que se ejecutan a través de tu cerebro. "Sentimiento, sensación, sentimiento, sensación, sentimiento, feeeeeling." Gritando una llamada, un grito de ayuda. Por favor, déjame sentir algo más que todo esto. Y luego, por supuesto, llega "Day of the lords", que suena como si el mundo esté llegando a su fin. Joy Division fueron casi perfectos desde el principio. Casi perfectos. Ellos

Ian era un poeta maravilloso y un escritor maravilloso. Ingenuo es quien piense que son solo letras de rock escritas en un pedazo de papel arrugado y hecho una mierda. Joy Division pueden sonar muy bien cuando cantan, pero es exactamente poesía. Ian realmente la podía escribir y además darle esa brillantez fusionada con música. Estas letras son tan eficaces como la literatura. Ahora, piensa en esto. Intenta hacerlo! Sabes lo dificil que es ser un poeta y un letrista de canciones. Nunca
se puede ser las 2 a la vez, y si lo intentas, sucumbiras al menos en una de las disciplinas, hay que decir solo está al alcance de tan pocos genios como Patti Smit, Bob Dylan, Neil Young, etc..."New Dawn Fades" Pfff me esfuerzo por describir esta canción y no soy capaz. Es
tan oscura y densa, ¿Quieres música para reflexionar y crear la sensación de una película de terror? Joy Division lo hicieron, y es más, ellos reflejaban la vida real, mucho más horrible. También
incluyeron un bajista que tocaba como nadie, y un guitarrista que era
por lo menos igual de bueno, si no mejor, que cualquier otro grupo de 'Punk' de la época. "She's Lost Controll" es maravillosa, ritmos extraños, muy
melódica, pero conservando la oscuridad para sumergirse en el consuelo. 'Shadowplay' es casi perfecta. I nstrumental a la espera de una guitarra fantástica, muy diferente de una guitarra punk, pero más punk que cualquier otra cosa. La guitarra de Joy Division rara vez proporcionan las melodías en sus canciones. 'Shadowplay' es el bajo y la batería los que proporcionan la melodía. El bajo especialmente. La guitarra se deja libre para proporcionar "percusión" una extraña mezcla de instrumentos con sonidos diferentes, no se puede decir otra cosa que maravillosa. 'Interzone' es sin duda la canción más directa en todo el álbum. Sólo son dos minutos de explosión punky. Tiene un lugar en el disco sin embargo. 'Unknown Pleasures', como 'Closer' el disco que le siguió, es un disco que pide ser escuchado con atención, de principio a fin. Es
uno de los mejores álbumes de debut que se han hecho en la historia. No se puede considerar en absoluto el álbum como un best-seller, pero tiene el merito que a influenciado a muchos grupos a lo largo de los años y que a día de hoy lo sigue haciendo. Este es un álbum clásico, tan simple como eso. El pequeño hecho de que 'Interzone' en sí misma deja bastante que desear a mi gusto, no va a influir que es una obra maestra.

was quiet, thoughtful, and seemed quite normal, but his eyes burning
through his poetic songs. But, you know. It was the time. The Punk had appeared, and was about to implode. England suffered poverty and everything seemed bleak. Musical influences? Kraftwerk sounded foreign. Iggy Pop was fully being totally corrupted, and fans of the Velvet Underground were still a kind of secret society. So the group had to become more of a band "classic rock" or something like that. Joy
Division combined a number of influences that added style rhythm
section and production skills of Martin Hannett to create something
unique. Of course we also had the letters, which were works of art. Everything combined together. Besides
having the physical appearance of Ian Curtis on stage, waving his arms,
half closed, and half raised to the sky, as if waiting for a miracle.
Have you ever made a suicide pact with anyone? Two people eternally together, two people who love each other so much because they can always be physically linked. Despair, social desolation help to make these covenants. All this may sound like a cliché, but sometimes it is what actually happens, and Joy Division are not the cause of it! Joy Division's music becomes this wonderful discovery. You
end up watching a poor quality video of Joy Division with all the
curtains closed on your home despite the sun shining outside. Because
the sun is shining outside, but still you prefer to be inside, in your
reality, inside you crying for three days straight when the girl you
love is gone forever and you come to understand because you can not be
together all the life. Taking disorder nights running through your brain. "Feeling, feeling, feeling, feeling, feeling, feeeeeling." Shouting a call, a cry for help. Please let me feel something more than this. And then, of course, comes "Day of the Lords", it sounds as if the world is coming to an end. "Disorder" for example, is just great, really do not need to have made no suicide pact with nobody to love this wonderful song.Joy Division were nearly perfect from the start. Almost perfect. They
had recorded a number of punk songs much easier, and recorded the album
for RCA Records being horribly produced by subtracting the power of the
group. That was before 'Unknown Pleasures' though. Martin Hannett was the catalyst. They allowed the group to produce the sounds they wanted. Echos, disturbing sounds. 'Candidate' has it all, is the quintessential sound of 'Unknown Pleasures'. "There's
blood on your fingers ... I worked hard for this ... you treat me like
this" Some of the songs here start in almost complete silence. 'Insight' is one of them. Ian was a wonderful poet and a wonderful writer. Naive's who think they are just rock lyrics written on a piece of crumpled paper and shit. Joy Division can sound good when they sing, but that's exactly poetry. Ian really could write and also give that brilliance combined with music. These letters are as effective as literature. Now, think about this. Try it! You know how hard it is to be a poet and a lyricist of songs. You
can never be the 2 at a time, and if you try, you will succumb in at
least one of the disciplines, it must be said is only available to so
few geniuses like Patti Smit, Bob Dylan, Neil Young, etc ... " New Dawn Fades "Pfff I strive to describe this song and I can not. It's so dark and dense, you want music to reflect and create the feeling of a horror movie? Joy Division did, and moreover, they reflect real life, much more horrible. They
also included a bassist who played as one, and a guitarist who was at
least as good, if not better, than any other group of 'Punk' of the
time. "She's Lost Controll" is wonderful, strange rhythms, very melodic, but retaining the obscurity into comfort. 'Shadowplay' is almost perfect. I nstrumental waiting a fantastic guitar, very different from a guitar punk, but more punk than anything else. Joy Division's guitar melodies rarely provide in their songs. 'Shadowplay' is the bass and drums that provide the melody. The bass especially. The
guitar is left free to provide "Percussion" a strange mix of
instruments with different sounds, you can not say anything but
wonderful. 'Interzone' is undoubtedly the most straightforward song on the album. Only two minute punk blast. It has a place on the disc though. The last song "I Remember Nothing" sounds like someone is falling apart. It is frightening, frightening. 'Unknown
Pleasures', as 'Closer' the album that followed, is an album that begs
to be listened carefully, from beginning to end. It is one of the best debut albums that have been made in history. You
can not consider at all the album as a best-seller, but it has the
merit that influenced many groups over the years and today it still
does. This is a classic album, simple as that. The small fact that 'Interzone' itself rather disappointing to my taste, it will not affect it's a masterpiece.
