Quién a estas alturas no conozca quienes son The Pogues es que es de este mundo. Ellos tenian una fusion un tanto extraña entre el punk con folk irlandés por lo que dejaba a la mayor parte del público aturdido y desorientado. 'Red Roses For Me" tiene las características de una instrumentación acústica que suena entre enfado y plenitud de energía como cualquier disco de The Clash de sus inicios o de los Ramones. Que yo sepa, lo que The Pogues logró hacer por la música irlandesa fue inedito, nadie manejaba la musica tradicional para hacerla música popular. Corregir si me equivoco, pero no puedo recordar un grupo anterior y popular que marcase un antes y un despues a la música irlandesa como hicieron The Pogues, eso si, años mas tarde saldrian Therapy? como la banda mas conocida dentro del estilo alternativo.
Composiciones originales de Shane MacGowan son generalmente derivadas de melodías tradicionales, el hecho de que las canciones se sientan tan homogeneas es gracias a ella y es algo de aplaudir. Sonidos de Acordeón, Susurros Estaños y Banjos proporcionan melodías mientras la batería suena fuerte y simple. 'Red Roses For Me' presenta este sonido de batería muy fuerte en aparentemente en cada canción. El tema "Waxie's Dargle" es indeleble y manchado por la bebida, pero también memorable fue el video realizado por Channel Four en el espectáculo 'The Tube'. Esta misma vitalidad es suficiente para traducir a The Pogues más allá de sus esferas de influencia originales. 'Streams Of Whiskey' se encuentra junto al igual que de "Waxie's Dargle' en los temas mas memorables y son geniales y Sea Shanty' está llena de melodía, algo muy importante dentro de la música tradicional irlandesa.
'Red Roses For Me' es sin duda un grandísimo disco dentro de la discografia de The Pogues y a su vez es un disco subestimado. Dark Streets Of London' y 'Boys From The County Hell' fueron ambos lanzados como sencillos pero a mi gusto no acabaron de trazar bien ese limite entre el folk tradicional y el folk mas moderno. Se podría argumentar que 'Dark Streets Of London' suena demasiado irlandés para haberse cruzado con otros estilos, me suena demasiado tabernero como un grupo de pelirrojos borrachos cantando Danny Boy en la despedida al otro mundo de uno de sus compañeros. 'Boys From The County Hell" es una canción excelente, y para que conste, aunque la música festiva y folk me repiten a veces un poco como el ajo, ellos tienen la medida justa para amarlos y tenerles cariño.

Dark Streets Of London 'and' Boys From The County Hell 'were both released as singles but I like to draw not end well this boundary between traditional folk and more modern folk. One could argue that 'Dark Streets Of London' sounds too Irish to have interbred with other styles, it sounds too innkeeper redheads as a group of drunks singing Danny Boy in the farewell to another world of one of their peers. 'Boys From The County Hell "is a great song, and for the record, though festive and folk music sometimes repeated me a bit like garlic, they have just the right to love and have affection.
