Y volvemos a estar delante de otro clásico poco conocido de los 90s, nada mas ni nada menos que el Big Red Letter Day de Buffalo Tom. Si tuvieramos que clasificar todas las bandas alternativas como bien dice su nombre posiblemente Buffalo Tom sería de las primeras que pondría en la lista por su sensatez durante toda su carrera, he de decir que la banda la descubrí por una serie que hacian en la television llamada My So-Called Life en que habían actores jovenes de la talla como Jared Leto o mi amada Claire Danes. Fue un invento de hacer una serie de jovenes con sus problemas de adolescencia tipicos de los años 90, una serie muy de tintes alternativos con ese aura grunge empapaba todo. Sin irme mas por las ramas, decir que el disco de Buffalo Tom es excelente, música con melodías pegadizas, guitarras suaves y duras y un poco de angustia en sus letras. Ellos, obviamente, deben mucho a R.E.M. pero su música es atractiva en sí misma. Buffalo Tom se convirtió en un grupo de referencia por aquel entonces en Boston, con sus famosos sencillos Sodajerk o Late at Night, esta última es una emotiva balada que me produce tremendas sensaciones.
Big Red Letter Day está lleno de momentos agradables y rock enérgico. También es probablemente que hayas escuchado durante todos estos años sin saber que eran ellos el tema Sodajerk como música de fondo para algún anuncio comercial de televisión, ya que diria que es el tema mas famoso de todos ellos. Técnicamente la cancion cuenta con una guitarra por parte de Bill Janovitz de lo mas atractiva por lo que le da a la canción una sensación de lo mas estimulante. Si bien se trata de una letra compuesta por Janovitz sobre los sentimientos problemáticos hacia una ex-novia, Tree House tiene a Janovitz con un canto de lo mas enérgico y la guitarra sigue un buen ritmo de conducción. Termina con una nota especialmente extasiada entre coros edificantes de Julia Waters, cantando "seasons change." Arenosa, ruda, son las voces ásperas de Janowitz y la guitarra contundente pero a su vez melódica impulsan una serie de estados de rock muy de la epoca supongo.Las canciones lentas en el Big Red Letter Day también funcionan. A veces, el disco se comporta como un poco demasiado "serio" a mi parecer, pero la gravedad del peso de las canciones nos arrastra hacia una busqueda y una reflexión inusual en todos los temas por lo que las convierte en algo no pretencioso. Late at Night me permite decir que es una balada de lo mas sentida y bonitas que nunca escuchado. Y el bajista Chris Colbourn tiene una voz más clara que la de Janovitz pero puedo decir sinceramente que tiene un encanto especial.
El álbum de Buffalo Tom a veces puede ser un poco demasiado "serio" para mi gusto, creo que esta faltado de un pequeño empuje hacia la rabia, pero las canciones son buenas y muy bien ejecutadas. La banda se toma en serio la construcción de sus canciones, pero los resultados suelen ser muy agradable.
Buffalo Tom siempre a la sombra de sus coetáneos, pero tan grande como ellos.

And we are back in front of another little known classic of the 90s, nothing more and nothing less than the Big Red Letter Day by Buffalo Tom. If we were to classify all alternative bands such as its name suggests possibly Buffalo Tom would of the first to put on the list for his wisdom throughout his career, I must say that the band discovered they were doing a series on TV called My So-Called Life in which they had the likes young actors like Jared Leto or my beloved Claire Danes. It was an invention to make a number of youngsters with typical teenage problems of the 90, quite a number of alternative dyes with that aura grunge soaked everything. No go more around the bush, saying that the Buffalo Tom album is excellent, music with catchy melodies, soft and hard guitars and a bit of angst in their lyrics. They obviously owe much to R.E.M. but his music is attractive in itself. Buffalo Tom became a reference group at that time in Boston, with its famous simple Sodajerk or Late at Night, the latter is an emotional ballad that gives me tremendous feelings.Big Red Letter Day is full of pleasant moments and energetic rock. Also probably have heard all these years without knowing it was them Sodajerk theme as background music for a television commercial ad because I would say that is the subject most famous of them all. Technically the song features a guitar by Bill Janovitz of the most attractive so it gives the song a feeling of the most stimulating. While this is a letter composed by Janovitz on problematic feelings toward an ex-girlfriend, Janovitz Tree House has a song of the most energetic and the guitar is a good driving beat. It ends with a note especially ecstatic between Julia Waters uplifting chorus, singing "seasons change." Gritty, tough, rough voices are Janowitz and forceful guitar but in turn drive a series of melodic rock states of the time supongo.Las very slow songs in the Big Red Letter Day also work. Sometimes, the disk behaves like a little too "serious" in my opinion, but the gravity of the weight of the songs we drag a search and unusual reflection on all issues so that becomes not pretentious. Late at Night I can say is a heartfelt ballad and the most beautiful I ever heard. And bassist Chris Colbourn has a clearer voice than Janovitz but I can honestly say it has a special charm.The Buffalo Tom album can sometimes be a little too "serious" for my taste, I think this missed a rabies small push, but the songs are good and very well executed. The band is serious about building their songs, but the results are usually very nice.
Buffalo Tom always in the shadow of his contemporaries, but as great as them.
