En el ya lejano 2000 su disco de debut te teletransportaba directamente a los años setenta, cuidadas melodías vocales, calidoscopicas guitarras, saltarinas lineas de bajo y una simple pero concisa batería en un disco precioso. Alabados por la critica mas indie tanto Yankee como Britanica, pero lejos de acaparar una fama que si han logrado unos Fleet foxes, grupo fantástico pero en mi opinión algo postizo, sin alma.
Por el contrario Alma es de lo que andan sobrados Beachwood Sparks y sus canciones.
En 2002 saran "Once we were trees" y su sonido se vuelve mas complejo, psicodélico. El disco es superior a su debut, uno de los mejores del año, guitarras etéreas que se entrelazan en ensoñadoras melodías vocales. Brian Wilson estaría orgulloso de ellos pues su música rezuma california por los cuatro costados. Tras recibir miles de elogios de la critica y sin explicación aparente la banda se centra en sus proyectos paralelos y desaparece del mapa.
Unos de vuelta en Further y con Scher ejerciendo de Teclista de directo de los new yorkinos Interpol ( aun recuerdo como me pase toda la actuación frotandome los ojos al verlo allí con la oscura banda vestido como salido de Woodstock!) llegamos a 2008.
Ese año el sello Sub Pop cumplía 20 años y la banda se reunió para una serie de conciertos conmemorativos.
Como su música ellos fluyen a su ritmo, libres de todo… Llegamos a 2012 y nos presentan este magnifico "The tarnished gold".
Es todo un placer escuchar a la banda y ver que siguen en su mundo paralelo, si sus dos primeros discos tenían un aire mas indie, por lo descacharrado de su sonido, ahora suenan maduros, profesionales y parece que el mar esta en calma. Emociona cada nota, una harmonica por aquí, un piano por alla, "Alone together" es tan bella que logra humedecerte los ojos, la reivindicativa "Sparks fly again" es movida incluso rockera a su manera. "Mollusk" incluye los desarrollos mas retorcidos del álbum dandole un aire misterioso a su música, la canción que da nombre al álbum es tan simple y a la vez tan bonita…
"Water from the hell" es la que demuestra como ha madurado la banda, la paz hecha canción. En canciones como "Nature's light" se acercan mas a un sonido mas folkie pero siempre desde su sonido. La curiosa "No queremos oro" en un perfecto castellano-mexicano es algo marcial en su base rítmica pero sigue los patrones de la banda te arrancara una sonrisa.
El disco lo cierran de manera educadisima con un tema titulado "Goodbye" una canción desnuda y emocionante.
Esperemos que este disco no sea otro "Goodbye" sino un hasta ahora y se acerquen a Europa.
Uno de los discos "sorpresa" del año, sorpresa por inesperado porque sus fans de antaño si sabíamos de lo que eran capaces.

The band of L.A, who took the name of the intersection of Burbank where Brent Rademaker lived bassist, deserve all the fame and attention that are taking Fleet Foxes. Formed in the late 90's from the ashes of Further Californians signed by the label of Seattle and are one of the most important groups of the record Post Nirvana.In the distant 2000 their debut album I teleported directly to the seventies, maintained vocal melodies, kaleidoscopic guitars, bouncy bass lines and a simple but concise battery in a beautiful album. More critically acclaimed British indie as much Yankee, but far from hoarding a reputation that if you have achieved a Fleet Foxes, fantastic group but in my opinion something false, soulless.Instead Alma is what are flush Beachwood Sparks and his songs.In 2002 saran "Once We Were Trees" and its sound becomes more complex, psychedelic. The disc is higher than its debut, one of the best of the year, ethereal guitars intertwine in dreamy vocal melodies. Brian Wilson would be proud of them because their music oozes california on all four sides. After receiving thousands of critical acclaim and the band unexplained focuses on their side projects and disappears from the map.Some Further back in and keyboardist Scher exerting direct from New Yorkers Interpol (I still remember how I pass all the performance rubbing my eyes to see him there with the dark band left dressed like Woodstock!) Arrived in 2008.That year the label Sub Pop 20 years and met the band reunited for a series of commemorative concerts.As they streamed their music pace, free from ... 2012 and we arrived at this magnificent show "The tarnished gold".It is a pleasure to hear the band and see that continue in parallel world, if their first two albums had a more indie air, so descacharrado of their sound, now sound mature, professional, and seems that the sea is calm. Excited every note, a harmonica here, a piano over there, "Alone Together" is so beautiful that achieves moisten the eyes, vindictive "Sparks Fly Again" is moved even rock in their own way. "Mollusk" includes more twisted developments giving the album an air of mystery to his music, the album's title track is so simple and yet so beautiful ..."Water from the hell" is the one that shows how the band has matured, made peace song. In songs such as "Nature's light" are closer to a more folky sound but always from their sound. The curious "We will not golden" in perfect Castilian-Mexican is something martial in its rhythmic base but follows the patterns of the band ripped you a smile.The album was so close educadisima with an item entitled "Goodbye" song naked and exciting.Hopefully this will not be another album "Goodbye" but a far and come to Europe.One of the albums "surprise" of the year, unexpected surprise for fans of yesteryear because if we knew what they were capable of.
