Corría el año 1994 y por fín y tras un largo y duro parto los de Manchester daban a luz a su segunda criatura tras 5 largos años de silencio. Tras aquel magistral debut que cambiría el mundo del pop británico (y dicho sea de paso, del pop en general) llegaba esta segunda obra muy diferente a su predecesor, y es que en este Second coming nos olvidamos casi por completo de aquellas guitarras y arreglos preciosistas que marcaron su anterior obra para dar paso a un álbum de fuerte carácter rockero, bluesero e incluso con atisbos al dance más agresivo, caso de la magnifica Begging you.
Tras esa larga intro selvática que abre el disco los mancunianos abren fuego con la sublime Breaking into heaven que navega por mares de guitarras y wah-wahs para goce y disfrute del enorme John Squire, sin duda el disco gira en torno a él como no podía ser de otra forma ya que el mismo Squire lo compuso casi en su totalidad, tras Breaking...llega la chulesca Driving south con ese riff directamente extraído del genio de Jimmy Page para acto seguido dar paso al single Ten storey love song, compuesta íntegramente por Squire es una verdadera joya que merece estar en la cumbre de los mejores temas pop del pasado siglo, Daybreak es quizá de los cortes más flojos del disco pero sin desmerecer en absoluto esa sobresaliente interpretación de Reni a la batería,con Your star will shine uno alcanza el cielo con esa melodía tan simple que se posa sobre la telaraña de guitarras acústicas tejidas por el genio de Squire, Staight to the man tiene un aire groovie muy interesante que da paso a un corte radicalmente diferente como es la maravillosa Begging you, con cientos de samples y guitarras invertidas, con Tightrope volvemos al folk acústico más sublime como bien nos lo recuerda Ian Brown en ese gran estribillo, vuelta a la influencia Zeppeliniana tan patente en el disco con la genial Good times y su abanico demoledor de riffs, la delicada Tears con dos partes bien diferenciadas transporta al oyente a las estrellas para después bajarlo de golpe, la más que efectiva How do you sleep y su buen estribillo dan entrada a ese single tan impresionante y uno de mis temas favoritos del disco como es Love spreads, toda una exhibición de poder tanto en su base rítmica como en esa maravillosa guitarra con slide. En definitiva uno de los mejores trabajos firmados en los 90 con la capacidad de sorprender y reinventarse que tuvieron The Stone Roses con respecto a su anterior álbum.

After that masterful debut cambiría the British pop world (and by the way, pop in general) came this second work very different from its predecessor, and is that in this Second coming almost completely forget those guitars and arrangements preciosistas that marked his earlier work to make way for a rock album of strong character, with hints bluesy and even more aggressive to dance, if the magnificent Begging you.After that long intro that opens the album jungle Manchester's open fire with the sublime Breaking Into Heaven sailing through seas of guitars and wah-wahs for huge enjoyment of John Squire, the disc certainly revolves around him and could not be otherwise since it Squire was composed almost entirely after Breaking ... Driving south cocky comes with that riff directly extracted from the genius of Jimmy Page for thereupon make way for the single Ten storey love song, composed entirely by Squire is a real gem that deserves to be at the top of the best pop songs of the last century, Daybreak is perhaps the weakest cut on the disc but no offense at all the outstanding interpretation of Reni on drums, with Your star will shine one reaches the sky with that simple melody that settles on the web of woven acoustic guitars by the genius of Squire, Staight to the man has a very interesting groovie air which leads to a cut radically different as is the wonderful Begging you, with hundreds of samples and reversed guitars, with Tightrope become the most sublime acoustic folk as well Ian Brown reminds us in that great chorus, turn Zeppeliniana so obvious influence on the disc with the Good times and great range of crushing riffs, Tears delicate two distinct parts transports the listener to the stars and then strike it down, the more effective you How do you sleep and give good chorus that single entry so awesome and one of my favorite tracks on the disc as is Love spreads, a whole display of power in both its rhythmic base as in that wonderful slide guitar. Definitely one of the best works produced in 90 with the ability to surprise and reinvent that The Stone Roses had about their previous album.
