"Americana" fue el retorno de Young junto a sus Crazy Horse, un disco de versiones folk pasadas por el prisma de la banda. El disco consiguió dividir a los fans, pues no fue del agrado de todos… Aunque a mi me dejo en un termino medio, al menos sirvió para que se juntaran de nuevo.
Y pocos meses después nos entregan este doble álbum. Si Bob dylan nos ofrecía un poema musicado sobre el Titanic de 10 minutos… Neil y los suyos nos vuelan la cabeza con los 27 minutos largos de "Driftin' back", un tema puro crazy Horse con la machacona batería de Ralph Molina y los guitarrazos saturados de distorsión a cargo de Frank Sampedro y Neil young… Un tema 100% "Ragged Glory" así que siendo mi disco favorito, la cosa comienza bien!
El tema que da nombre al disco es una de las mas breves… y es cósmica, psicodélica un verdadero trallazo! tiene una melodía muy Beatles pero queda oscurecida por la demente producción… Estan en forma, y quieren reventarte la cabeza. Ponlo al máximo volumen y serás el mas odiado del vecindario.
"Ramada Inn" Es otro tema que nos recuerda a "Ragged Glory" siendo mas convencional que la marciana "Psychedelic Pill" el solo de esta canción, destapa a Neil como un solista que dota de sentimiento cada nota que extrae de su instrumento. Los casi 17 minutos del tema pasan fugaces debido a los paisajes que logran dibujar con su música. En "Born in Ontario" reivindica su origen canadiense con un Country repleto de distorsión, como no, pero realmente vacilón, divertido y que ayuda a aflojar la tensión acumulada. Y con esta acaba el primer CD...
"Twisted Road" es un rock, de esos que son marca de la casa, simple pero adictivo, con unos coros por parte del resto del grupo, de los que te hacen suspirar de felicidad.
Los 8 minutos de "She's always dancin' " parecen breves visto como se las gasta el fiero de Neil Young, A su edad se ha marcado un disco tan brutal, doliente y furioso que deberían advertirte a la hora de comprarlo. Aquí los coros se repiten en una especie de canción religiosa, de un salmo curativo y es que a estas alturas estamos totalmente entregados a este diabólico disco.
Todo el disco parece grabado en directo con finales eternos, con los míticos acoples finales de guitarra…
"For the love of man" es la has relajada del disco una especial de nana que da un respiro a nuestros tímpanos que no a nuestros sentimientos pues logra ponerlos a flor de piel, con unos arreglos de cuerda muy acertados.
Tras la calma la tempestad otra vez la distorsión y las guitarras monolíticas martillean tu maltrecho cerebro, los silbidos iniciales te indican la melodía y es de esas que vas a silbar el resto del día! Como diablos logra eso?
"Walk like a giant" es de las majors del disco, con una melodía infecciosa, saltarina, juguetona que se instala en tu cerebro mientras la banda maltrata sus instrumentos creando un himno imperecedero… Aunque los últimos 4 minutos estén mas cerca de unos rabiosos Sonic youth experimentando con el ruido y sus texturas que de un grupo de rock convencional. Genial!
Para finalizar una versión alternativa de "Psychedelic Pill" esta vez sin el rollo cósmico y la paranoica producción es todo nervio, tensión, un puñetazo directo a tu mentón. Yo personalmentee prefiero esta versión.
Asi que en pleno 2012 el jodido Neil young nos entrega el puto disco del año. ¿Que por que digo tanto taco? Porque tengo la adrenalina a tope, porque me da rabia seguir flipando con Neil young y no con un grupo actual, porque neil young con un simple guitarrazo consigue emocionarme como nadie mas logra… Porque Neil Young es dios y punto.
