KEVIN MARTIN & THE HIWATTS
"THE POSSIBILITY OF BEING"
Tymphanic Records
2005
Many people are unaware that the last great album "Grunge" was published in 2005 and not in the 90s. The album was conceived by Candlebox soloist at that time we were delighted with classics like "Far Behind" or "Change".With "The Possibility of Being" we again have the opportunity to feel the moments of rage that both longed and had become fashionable in the mid-90s, both conscious work and music composition. The disc-song naked, exposing all the genius of a singer who could have been as large as their counterparts in the time, and for reasons unknown it was not. The album is produced by the former producer of the first album Candlebox so is quite noticeable. The album opens with "Amedia" a topic with clear references to Led Zeppelin with house brand guitars from Seattle, where Kevin Martin's voice is still in top form giving a recital of unprecedented records. A very powerful theme. Yet been recovered without us having listened Shock "Amedia" comes the first single "If We Could", but we had spare time, now we just finish with a song of epic, just fantastic. Martin describes this song fits well with the album title and existential questions ... With "Identify" punk comes more disk and less to my liking, without being either a bad theme. And by "I" heard the best song on the album, a song with pure essence Grunge in all aspects from the guitar riffs to the beating of drums and the vocal range where Kevin Martin gets more proof, at times we transported to 1991. After 4 issues of storm comes the calm with "Thoughtless innuendos", a mid-tempo to ballad without ever leave us again frozen by the amount of voice records, Kevin feels comfortable and enjoys the moment you note devoted to the cause and always giving strength to the topic when needed, with a simple but consistent guitar playing. "Walkaway" a powerballad leaving us breathless emotional load off, ask Kevin's screams for mercy with tones very powerful rhythmic base, particularly this topic makes me shudder!. "Restless" is back with another powerballad but it's a matter of filling the weakest song on the disc. "Enemy" is for me the song which sounds more disk Candlebox, written by Kevin himself explains all the rejections that have existed for political leaders throughout history, no other topic Rocker!. With "She" makes us believe that what we are hearing is Led Zeppelin, and fuck (pardon the expression) almost sneaks! where the bass is more present throughout the album, with half-times powerful. "Telepathic Rock & Roll" I think it is an intentional theme has paid tribute artists who have influenced the course of the career of Kevin Martin (Dylan, Lennon, Bowie ...), but who have influenced all these? ?!!. And now the end of the disc with "The Lovers" where the battery is more than the actual protagonist Kevin, one sounds very "Tribes" string sounds mixed with epic and giving a voice to more style Cobain. An album that went unnoticed for large mass, with personality and character very rock. He had the bad fortune that was made out of time but that does not take away any value. Despite being heavily influenced by Led Zeppelin in some sections of the disc leaves the possibility of returning to enjoy the best Kevin Martin still as fresh as the day it was with Candlebox.
