Que poco queda del grupo que publico "songs about Jane" justo hace ya 10 años. Cierto que sin ser un grupo del otro mundo su disco de debut tenia un aire funk y unos cuantos hits muy pegadizos. Canciones de esas que sin contener un gran riff de guitarra si contenía unas melodías totalmente adictivas. Canciones que se te adherían al cerebro y acababas tarareando casi sin querer. Eran un grupo de pop y para mi eso no es un drama, si tiene calidad, y ellos lo tenían.
Incomprensiblemente para mi pues tenían un estilo bastante personal, este nuevo trabajo me ha descolocado totalmente. Han abrazado el mainstream totalmente. La respuesta Yankee a los británicos Coldplay salvando las distancias, nos traen un disco muy comercial repleto de baterías programadas, teclados, autotune a tope y canciones mas cerca del R&B mas comercial que del pop-rock de aire funk setentero del principio.
Aceptada la transformación que nos queda? Pues un puñado de canciones que pueden sonar en cualquier discoteca de moda pero ya no en un club de rock.
Las canciones sin todo el artificio que las rodea y la pomposa producción son buenas, algunas brillantes incluso como la inicial "One more night". Han hecho lo contrario de Gossip los cuales eran un grupo sin alma y que la producción de Rick Rubin les hizo entregar un discazo demoledor. Ahora sin Rubin tras los cristales del estudio han vuelto a su gris pop sin garra ni punch.
Los californianos en su empeño de repetir la jugada de su súper exitosa colaboración con Cristina Aguilera se empeñan en dar forma a otro "Moves like Jagger" sin suerte.
Es mas hay canciones realmente irritantes como "fortuna teller".
Creo que fue Sir Paul McCartney dijo una vez que una buena canción es aquella que lo es incluso siendo tocada solo con una guitarra acústica o un piano.Y estoy totalmente de acuerdo con el genio de Liverpool, "Sad" es un ejemplo de esa afirmación con Adam Levine cantando sus penas a compañado solo con un piano un tema desgarrador y muy emotivo lo mejor del álbum. Tras su canción mas personal todo vuelve a la "normalidad" y nos entregan un tema que podría haber firmado Lady Gaga.
Juro que soy una persona abierta musicalmente, que disfruto por igual con Britney Spears que con Led Zeppelin, que me emociona el Elton John de los 70's y los Ghetto boys de los 80's, que son igual de importantes para mi The Who que Slayer, pero lo de este "superexposed" puede con mi paciencia, y a medida que avanza el disco y salen ecos de los Stock, Aitken y Waterman mas trasnochados o temas pseudo reggaes doy mi brazo a torcer… No hay nada que hacer. Esto es abrazar el Mainstream de la manera mas descarada.

They were a pop group and for me that is not a drama, if you have quality, and they had it.Bizarrely for me as they had a very personal style, this new job has me totally misplaced. They have fully embraced the mainstream. The answer to the British Yankee Coldplay relatively speaking, bring us a very commercial album full of programmed drums, keyboards, and songs autotune butt closer to the R & B more commercial pop-rock air principle seventies funk.Accepted the transformation that we have? For a handful of songs that can be played on any trendy club but no longer in a rock club.The songs without all the artifice that surrounds the pompous and production are good, some bright even as the initial "One more night". They have done the opposite of Gossip whom were a group without soul and that production of Rick Rubin asked to deliver a great album devastating. Now without Rubin behind the glass of the study have returned without claw gray pop or punch.Californians in their efforts to a replay of their super hit collaboration with Christina Aguilera is determined to shape another "Moves like Jagger" with no luck.But there is really irritating songs like "fortune teller".I think it was Sir Paul McCartney once said that a good song is one that it is even being played only with an acoustic guitar or an piano.Y I totally agree with the genius of Liverpool, "Sad" is an example of that statement Adam Levine singing his sorrows to compañado only a piano a heartbreaking and very emotional issue best album.
