ALICE IN CHAINS
"BLACK GIVES WAY TO BLUE"
EMI
2009

If I had to pick a group of music I have marked in life would surely Alice In Chains. But Alice In Chains are and will forever (Layne Staley, Jerry Cantrell, Mike Inez and Sean Kinney) period from 1990 to 1996 where he began and ended with Facelift with Unplugged. I related these years with William DuVall good for me is nothing more than an anecdote of a band that died the same day that Layne Staley voluntarily decided to leave a world where not provided anything interesting that banned substances were not .
Do not blame the poor William DuVall does what it can to disk, although for many it is a stranger had long haunted by the alternative rock scene \ Grunge with his previous band "Comes with the fall".
Trying to make a fair synopsis of something your heart tells you that never should have happened is not easy and as a fan I feel cheated by unconditional return. The disc can not be said that not sound like Alice In Chains, the sound is characteristic, double meter voices again this time with DuVall-Cantrell, distorted guitars but this lacked the soul and depressive aura transmitting Layne Staley. There may be people who see the disk as a wonder, but I left incomplete by most who will listen that I find has parts missing and done. The disc is quite more metal than I expected, I think the absence of Layne caused them to make that change to give more strength to the album.
The best example of what I say the album is "A Looking In View" a topic worthy guitar riffs of Black Sabbath and give it a heavy topic that possibly one of the most hard done by them, and that even so I just have a strange sense of "filler" and dissatisfaction. AIC sounding themes but sounding modern rock no longer sniff heroin.
Also has cut more acoustic moments like "When The Sun Rose Again" where Cantrell's voice is present and shines more brightly in the soft subjects that hard, as I found in his two solo albums.
Ultimately I think they used the group name for a business that had long since that address by the record and that the original members have sold. What should not be forgotten is that the AIC today are what they are because of their past reputation and what will not from now.
