Cuando oyes la palabra Tool, sueles llevar sus estándares de sonido a un metal psicodelico y único. Pero no se si todos saben que la banda Tool comenzó siendo una banda de rock duro, en cambio en 1992 fué más que eso. "Opiate" sigue siendo un álbum de rock duro, pero vive sorprendentemente cerca del metal, especialmente para los estándares de Tool.
La primera cosa a destacar de este álbum y que me llamó su atención cuando lo tuve en mis manos fué la portada. Como se puede ver, hay una especie de sacerdote terriblemente demoníaco, rezando una oración a seis manos. Se puede intuir que la portada está haciendo una declaración acerca de la religión. Es curioso el sentido religioso ya que los fans de Tool y de Maynard no adoran para nada la religión, pero es importante tener en cuenta que fue el
mensaje inicial de que la banda quería transmitir. El mismo título del álbum, "Opiate", se refiere a la postura de Karl Marxs en la religión. Por supuesto, "Opiate" salió dos años antes del disco debut de KoЯn, para quien intente relacionar el sonido del álbum con el grupo californiano.
Me
parece poco interesante entrar en detalles a estas alturas acerca de la extensa producción
artística de Tool, pero es dificil tratar de expresar un sentimiento creado en torno un ambiente alrededor de su música. Antes que nada habría que decir que "Opiate", no es ni tan oscuro ni inquietante como sus discos postumos..Desde el principio de "Opiate" es un álbum pesado en el ambito que suena denso y compacto. Es cierto, también que es de largo el álbum mas metalero de toda su discografia. No suenan como Slipknot o cosas así, pero de sobras podría ser considerado por bandas parecidas, especialmente en canciones como "Cold and Ugly".En cuanto a las letras de Maynard, creo que sería justo decir que no son la mejores letras creadas por él, pero que tampoco desmejoran nada. En definitiva es un gran álbum que se acerca mas al Nu metal que se haría famoso un par de años después, que al metal característico de Tool. Recomiendo sobretodo el video y la canción "Hush", personalmente la mejor de todo el disco. Feliz Navidad.

Of course, "Opiate" came out two years before the debut of KoRn, anyone attempting to connect the sound of the album with the California group.
I find uninteresting into details at this point about the extensive artistic production tool, but it is difficult to try to express a feeling created around an environment around your music. First of all we should say that "Opiate" is not as dark or disturbing as his posthumous albums ..From the beginning of "Opiate" is an album heavy on the field that sounds dense and compact. It is also true that the album is far more metalhead from their own discography. It sounds like Slipknot or things like that, but leftovers could be considered by similar bands, especially in songs like "Cold and Ugly".As for the lyrics of Maynard, I think it would be fair to say that they are the best characters created by him, but neither desmejoran nothing. In short it is a great album that is closer to the metal Nu became famous a few years later that the characteristic metal Tool especially recommend the video and the song "Hush", personally the best of the entire disk.
