Por fin tenemos en nuestras manos el esperado segundo trabajo de los Londinenses Mumford & sons, "Babel". Tras su exitoso debut tanto en Inglaterra como en los USA la banda nos entrega 15 temas, un disco extenso y mucho mas trabajado, con mas matices y sobretodo con un sabor mas añejo. Un disco que, gracias a su extenso tour por el sur de los Estados Unidos, suena mas americano, mas folkie, Bluegrass pero sin perder ese toque British que los hace especiales ante por ejemplo unos Avett Brothers, enormes también, gran disco "The Carpenter" por cierto, aunque inferior al de los Britanicos y a su Gran obra " I and love and you".
El single de adelanto " I will Wait" es una joya, una canción rozando la perfección, una canción que crece a cada escucha y que poco a poco se apodera de tu alma. Pero "Babel" esconde muchos tesoros en su interior.
La inicial "Babel " por ejemplo es un tema donde la voz de Marcus Mumford brilla de manera espectacular, es una de esas voces en las que el sentimiento prima por encima de la técnica.
"Holland Road" un melancólico tema que parece un tren de mercancías, su cadencia y su arreglos de cuerda la convierte en una canción muy especial. Es música de raíces, con olor a tierra, música que si le prestas atención te alimenta espiritualmente.
"Lover of the light" es un tema casi desnudo, donde voz y piano mantienen un dialogo, que poco a poco se va adornado por cuerdas, guitarras etc… Con aires celtas, casi imperceptibles al principio que explotan a medida que avanza la canción. Una de las mejores del disco.
La banda a confesado que el disco esta muy influenciado por el espíritu musical de Nashville, pero guarda su personal estilo por encima de todo. La banda que intercambia sus instrumentos constantemente en directo suena muy muy conjuntada en este disco. Un disco rico en matices y que a medida que vas escuchando mas te gusta. Es una especie de droga, una vez lo pruebes te costara dejar de lado.
"Lover's eyes" con see bello inicio con mandolina y banjo mas las voces de los cuatro es una de las que mas gusto country tiene de todo el conjunto, bella hasta el dolor.
Los escasos 2 minutos de "Reminder" justifican la compra del disco por su sincera letra y su emocionante interpretación.
"Hopeless wanderer" es un tema guerrero, con arrebatos de furia, sorprendentes en la música del grupo. A medida que avanza el disco temes que 15 temas sean demasiados y se resienta la calidad pero para nada… al contrario!
"Below my feet" incluye una maravillosa amalgama eléctrica, un white noise guitarrero de fondo que sorprende y logra que te preguntes cual será la próxima sorpresa…
Y la sorpresa es una versión del clásico de Simon& Garfunkel "the Boxer" que logran dotar de un aire especial, de una atmósfera Irlandesa con la que logran emocionarte una vez mas.
Sencillamente uno de los mejores discos del año.
