Debo confesar mi admiración por esta banda. He estado escuchando el álbum en bastantes ocasiones durante estos últimos diez años y sigo manteniendo que es un disco excelente solo fue egendrado en muy mal momento. Por lo tanto, esta crítica es mi inútil y débil intento para sacar un poco de atención aquellas personas que todavía les interesa un genero olvidado con uno de los mejores discos de rock alternativo de la era post-grunge. "Unified Theory" eran algo así como un supergrupo en su composición. El bajista Brad Smith y el guitarrista Christopher Smith eran miembros de Blind Melon, el batería Dave Krusen había tocado en el clásico "Ten" de Pearl Jam, y el cantante Chris Shinn, la verdad es que no estoy muy seguro de lo que estaba haciendo antes de Unified Theory, pero estoy seguro que algo haría de interés para llamar la atención de este supergrupo . La formación se creó en 1998, y tardaron 2 años para lanzar el álbum homónimo que en realidad fue comercialmente un fracaso en agosto del 2000.
Ya que estoy puesto voy a contar aquellos tiempos confusos para el rock alternativo. En agosto de 2000, el rock alternativo era la corriente principal de un rio de lodo. Scott Stapp sacaba pecho de su camino a la cima en las listas de éxitos con Creed, Fred Durst estaba a punto de dar rienda suelta a Limp Bizkit con un nuevo álbum y Korn ya estaban en lo más alto de la parte superior del trono del nu-metal, y Deftones sólo sirvieron la música con algunos temas de melodías dignas pero estaban siendo sofocados comercialmente por sus compañeros de profesión. La música para mí fue un nudo en la cabeza en esa época, mi conciencia no permitia adorar a tales personajes que estaban reinando el nuevo rock alternativo. Tal vez ese fue el gran error, no era el mejor ambiente para sacar un disco debút teñido de psicodelia, en cambio eso fue lo que hicieron exactamente "Unified Theory". En retrospectiva, esto bien pudo haber sido su perdición lamentable, ya que este álbum no es muy ruidoso y divertido, al contrario de lo que se estilaba por esos días. La primera canción Cessna establece a la banda a lo mas alto, un tema perfecto. Una línea que no desvían durante el curso del album, sabiendo muy bien lo que estan haciendo en todo momento. Como influencias a los 60s el tempo de las canciones de Unified Theory demuestran el amor por la psicodelia en los efectos de sonido. Bien, normalmente un disco que repite la misma fórmula en la mayoría de sus 12 canciones sería tedioso, aburrido y largo pero escuchar este álbum se nota que se beneficia de esto. El álbum cohesiona sin problemas y con éxito, se debe principalmente a los riffs memorables y unas voces exquisitas. Al fin y al cabo, estamos delante de un álbum clasico de rock alternativo, sólido y con momentos memorables.
Quisiera detallar que para los que se quejan del vocalísta de Blind Melon, Travis Warren por tener un tono de voz y una actitud muy parecida a la del malogrado Shannon Hoon es que nunca han escuchado la voz de Chris Shinn...esa voz si recuerda a Hoon.

I must confess my admiration for this band. I've been listening to the album on many occasions during the last ten years and I still maintain that it was just excellent disc egendrado very bad time. "Unified Theory" was something of a supergroup in composition. The bassist Brad Smith and guitarist Christopher Smith were members of Blind Melon, drummer Dave Krusen had played in the classic "Ten" by Pearl Jam, and singer Chris Shinn, the truth is I'm not quite sure what he was doing Unified Theory before, but I'm sure something would of interest to call attention to this supergroup. The formation was created in 1998, and it took two years to release the self-titled album was actually a failure commercially in August 2000.
Since I'm going to tell since those confusing times for alternative rock. In August 2000, alternative rock mainstream was a river of mud. The album represents smoothly and successfully, is mainly due to the memorable riffs and exquisite voices. I would like to detail that those who complain of Blind Melon vocalist, Travis Warren to have a voice and an attitude much like that of the late Shannon Hoon's who have never heard the voice of Chris Shinn ... if you remember that voice to Hoon.
